I've got an update for Twilight, but I'm already into the capmaign. Is it safe to install it? I've have very bad experiences with other games and patches, that make all your old saves not work anymore

You can always restart the current mission to remedy any issue with cross-versions.
Most often with updating mid-game is that most, if not all, of the bug fixes don't get into that game since it was created under a different patch.
If you're worried about patching mid-mission, then go ahead and finish it, then update and start the next mission under the new patch.
yup finish the current mission before updating is probably the best you can do
patching in the middle of a game can cause problems ... or not ...
