International Issue with weather docklet

Hopefully this is a misunderstanding

hey all,

I recently installed ObjectDesktop and thought it was the best thing ever, both in quality and viewing pleasure. When I tried the weather docklet for my city however, it told me the weather feed was unavaible. I didnt pursue the matter. I live in Taipei, Taiwan. I tried again today with the examples listed: Berlin, Germany and the postal code 48104. Both worked fine. I decided to try out Taipei, China, since we are often misunderstood to be Chinese and part of China. This worked.

I would like to point out that Taiwan is NOT part of China, whatever the Chinese government may say. Our situation is highly similar to what is happening in Tibet, though we do not have the PLA bitting up our @sses yet. The majority of the Taiwanese believe Taiwan to be a seperate country from China, not part of it. Our matter, however, is a lot less publicized as the status quo has not been changed for a very long time. We are not legally a country but only a de facto entity in the international community. We are not part of the UN, the WHO, the WHA, etc. We are only in the WTO because people wish to make money out of us. However much we strive to be part of something international, China denies it. I believe this to be a flagrant abuse of human rights and i think that this matter should be looked into and hopefully corrected ASAP.

Hopefully this is purely a misunderstanding on behalf of Stardock, as objectdesktop is an excellent piece of software. However, at the moment i cannot have this installed and not have my conscience act up on me, so until this is corrected, I will uninstall Object Desktop.

hope this is read by somebody who wishes to make a difference in the world.

Stardock gets it's weather feeds from acuweather.com.

It is likely beyond their immediate control.

That's weird, since when i type in Taipei, Taiwan into acuweather.com, i get something that doesn't say Taipei, China

Try using excatly this:

Taipei, Taiwan (T'ai-Wan)

Also please know that the free version of Object Dock does not have the updates that the beta version of Plus does. Those updates had a good deal of Accuweather software settings involved. I only mention this because I don't see a listed account with Plus on it for you. If you use the Dock all the time I would suggest picking up the Plus version as I would deam it very worth it. Please let me know if you have further troubles.

Sorry Seabass, but that doesn't work. It tells me that that is an invalid location, but thanks for your help anyways.

I currently am unable to buy the Plus version since I don't have a credit card (I'm still 17) and my parents are not likely to spend money on letting my Windows "look good". But hopefully I'll be able to buy it sometime soon.

Sorry to have blamed this on Stardock, but where i come from, people are either really sensitive about our political status or completely ignorant about the fact that there's even poltical tension between Taiwan and China. Guess i wont be using the weather docklet anytime soon then. Thanks for your help and concern people

Sorry for the trouble then. As I said it is the beta that is required to get the weather dock up and running fully. Once the 2.0 launch is done then the free version will get the update it needs.

ch40S43va--If you just want something to show weather try this-http://relhom.deviantart.com/art/Vista-outlook-53022287 It's a DesktopX gadget and doesn't require any special software to run. Install fonts in zip file and also refer to .jpg in zip file for how it works... Tapei---TWXX0021... Link won't work so just copy/paste in address bar...

One thing you can also do is try locations near you. The weather docklet on the free version does not have full access to all server information. However if you can get somewhere close to you to work that would be in the same weather pattern you might be just fine.
