Copy-problems in Skinstudio 6.2

Hi,

Since I'm a newbe I try to learn about skinning from other authors.

So I copy a skin and name it something else.I made a few copies and added "test 1,2,3, etc." to the name.At first it seemed that the copies were OK,but at the 5th copy it started to leave buttons away.

I had my design for a menu in progres and every time and wanted to test it I made a new name (test 3 or 4 etc.) for it.Suddenly the 3 topright buttons (Close, minimize etc.) were gone.

I had to re-open the previous design to try again. The problem stayed. It get's even worse.I started al over again and made a copy of the original skin from another author but even that copy has no topright buttons.
I had to stop my skinningprogress.

Does anyone had this problem also?
Is this a bug in Skinstudio 6.2?
Should I worke with version 5 and where can I get it?

Sincerely Ben

I have spend money at Object Desktop and can't use it for the full 100 %

Stardock Support: Would you please respond?

I think what is happening is that when you make your copy, Skinstudio isn't deleting the old (overwritten) UIS files and they remain in the folder. After you make a copy, manually delete any old files with the original skin name from the skin folder. I expect you will not have any problems after that.

BwanaBen

everytime you rename a skin SKS has to rename every image

1-ex... Image=Azul Hi-Def\Azul Hi-DefStartPanel.MenuItemImage.tga

the example 1 above is an image that was created from scratch then imported I have underlined the skin name

2-ex...Image=Azul Hi-Def\RadioButtonNew.tga

the example 2 above is an image that was already there but then modified I have underlined the skin name

When SKS renames a skin it only does it in front of the backslash.

3-ex... Image=NewSkin\Azul Hi-DefStartPanel.MenuItemImage.tga

the example 3 above would be example 1 renamed

This is important because when you rename a skin there are a lot of images copied into a new folder and renamed

I saw you respond to the other post,So a good idea if you are starting with a skin you want to modify you are better off to make copy of the skin first store somewhere then you have a default to go back to .Now start editing the installed skin DO NOT DO A SAVE AS untill you are completely finished editing the skin so you only do it once.

1 more note I can not remember right off the exact # but depending on the skin name there is a maximum character spaces for any given image

4-ex...Image=Azul Hi-Def\CloseButtonPerPixel^OverlayImage.tga

renamed

5-ex...Image=Azul Hi-Def test 1\CloseButtonPerPixel^OverlayImage.tga

if the part above in green was "Someskinname That Was Long" like the example below

6-ex...Image=Someskinname That Was Long test 1\CloseButtonPerPixel^OverlayImage.tga

and the underlined characters total over max allowed that will also cause an image not to show!

If I can help let me know

Thank you 'guys' fot your responds.

What I did was:
In SKS I made a copy of 'Slider XP'-skin (wich is very beautiful made) with 'Test1' added to the name.
Than I opened the 'Slider XP Test1'-skin for editing.
I replaced the Startmenu-images for images of my own to start with.
I than saved the Test1-skin to Test 2-skin.
I did that several times until my Startmenu was complete.Only the last time didn't work anymore bacause the
                       Caption-buttons and CaptionTextBackground-image were gone.
I checked the Test 2-folder and skin if there were any changes in the images-names.There were none.

I opened the original 'Slider Xp' -skin to see if the Caption-buttons and CaptionTextBackground-image were
                       present and yes they were.
So a mede a new copy of it and there's were I noticed that all these and following copies missed the
                       mentioned items.

In the case of AVMAN.There are no long names in the 'Slider XP'-skin.They al start with 'Slider' followed with the normal names.
Also there are no '/' in the names.
Should this eliminate the possible cause AVMAN mentioned?

I'll try later this day the possible solution of Night Train.
Should I only concentrate to the UIS-files?

Sincerely Ben
