Playing with a trackball

So I don't play many PC games, but I heard about Stardock and bought Sins of a Solar Empire a while back and enjoyed it thoroughly. I've been thinking about buying GalCiv2.

However, a laptop is now my primary computer, so I was wondering: do you think it's possible to play GalCiv2 with a trackball mouse instead of a regular one? The goal is to have the laptop in my...err, lap, and then have a trackball in the chair next to my leg.

I don't have a comfortable computer desk or chair, that's why I want to play it in my lap.

Anyway, I'm completely amazed at Stardock's attitude about gaming. I love it. It's not often that I find myself sitting around thinking about some company and how cool they are...
