Installed WB demo, lost my existing theme, can't get rid of sounds

Title says it all really. NowI've installed the demo, the only Windows XP theme it seems I can go back to is the default one. All previous settings/customizations lost. To be honest I'm not now sure which theme I'd installed or if it was just my adaption of the classic one. But shouldn't WB at least let you revert to your pre-WB setup? Instead of which once I tried out some of the built-in WB themes, there was no going back except to the bog standard one. Even Windows itself prompts you to save your existing theme when you make changes to it.

But well, OK, I guess the user just has to watch out for that.  Live and learn etc. More serious, since installing WB and trying it out, I now can't get rid of Windows sounds! Pre-WB I used the "No sounds" option. Now the sounds are back and I cannot get rid of them. Selecting the "No Sounds" sound scheme makes no difference. I've tried making a new scheme, then going through Every. Single. Sound. and setting them to "None" in the Sounds pulldown. Still no joy. It's driving me crazy.

Really, really not the way to make a sale.

PS. The theme I used originally (I reminded myself after googling) was Olive Green. The themes I should see and which no longer seem to be on my system are Olive Green, Blue and Silver. Instead of which all I have is Luna.

Open WindowBlinds configuration and select setting, you should see an option to shut off sounds there.

If you want to get back to you pre WindwoBlinds set up go into WB configuration and set default and apply.  Close the window.  Right click on the desktop and open Windows Properties, from there you should be able to set your normal Windows desktop.

Hope that helps.

You should be able to remove the WindowBlinds program by using the Add and Remove Programs function in Windows.  If you do that make sure you first set WindowBlinds to default as above.

WindowBlinds is a nice program try it some more, you may find that you like it.

I don't think it will revert back to a 'modified classic' theme - one in which you changed colors and stuff around - the only way to have gotten that back is if you had saved it.

hi, Thanks for the suggestions, but I'm not sure what "set Windows Blinds to default" means here? I've looked through Windows Blinds configuration and don't see this option.

I unticked "play sounds defined by the skin (if any)" in Settings, but the sounds still play (and despite "No sounds" being selected as the sound scheme).

In the Skins list (Visual Styles) the one all the way to the left is called "Windows XP Style"

Apply it and then unload Windowblinds. Reboot and you should see the Luna sub themes Olive, Blue and Silver

Just a quick update to the above. I set basic Windows XP as the theme, uninstalled Window Blinds, rebooted.

And the b****y sounds are still there. WB has stuck me, it seems, with an unremoveable irritation. Thank you WB.

I've actually gone the length of physically removing/renaming every likely sounding wav file I can find. And still it beeps. The sounds that play (principally on copying/deleting, whether in Office or Explorer) are nowhere listed in any sound scheme. It makes no difference what scheme I choose, or what wav files exist. The sounds still play.

Try this.......

In Windows Explorer, delete the folder "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Stardock\WindowBlinds"

You may need to go into the Tools Menu and select "Folder Options > View > Show Hidden file and folders" in order to see the folder.
