[Gameplay] Who's on your side?

I sometimes have a hard time trying to figure out which demigod is on my side. It would be great if random names or custom names could be put in for the AI.

That would be a good thing to implement rather than naming them all AI, so we don't get messages like "With the help of AI, AI, AI killed AI" OMGWTF does that mean?

Yeah, but I don't know if it will happen in the beta though. If memory serves they did the same names in Supreme Commanders beta as well.

I know the tooltip changes when I mouse over mobs and demigods showing me the difference between friend and foe, but an aura or vastly different colored units might be nice, if it didn't screw with the graphic theme of the game.  The names of who killed who don't bother me as much, but would be great to have unique if only randomly generated names for AI.

While we're on this topic, do not resort to using fugly team colouring pasted all over everything. Its not in use yet, and I hope it never does get used.

teams get different colors.

good gets red, orange and yellow

evil gets green, blue and purple (i think)

but yeah, we need names

It would be cool if the computer gave the Demigods cool name like the destory, Sup Com does this with the AI and this is beta 1 so I beat down the road you will see this.

My suggestion:

Good side gets a golden shimmer around their units. Nothing to shiney but in a degree you can easy notice it.

Bad side gets a red/black aura around their units.

So long, Aspartem :snowman:

grungy cracked bricks on the dark rook.

Different color trim on the dark roo, while the light gets some more bright metalic look to the trim.

etc.. taht sort of thing would work best, just like the texture changes for dark and light creeps.

I wouldn't be surrpised if they weren't already doing that, or maybe it's too much work or would be too much system resources.

I have noticed since they are going for a theme of light vs darkness they can alter the characters just a hair towards light and darkness like they do the creeps and that would be cool. Example would be for Rook the light side can have a Rook that is lighter and has more sheen to it like a holy juggernaut or put white banners coming off of the shoulders. Then for the dark side Rook have it look more cast from the shadow and darker like he has sat in the shadows for centuries awaiting the right moment to awaken then maybe give him black banners blowing in the breeze.

As for the others you can give the fallen angel black armor and the good one light armor like white or silver, and for torch bearer ... that one would be tough since he is basicly insane... maybe cloth parts of his armor or coverings can be light and dark themed and when he is on fire the good torch could have light flames and the shadow torch can be wreathed in black fire. Just my suggestions!

lol looks like somebody beat me to the punch BUT hey its worth getting my ideas out there!

I said it days ago actually.. there have been like 7 threads on the exact smae issue.

I'm sure GPG have been looking into it before even giving us the build, i'm sure they've noticed the issue themselves.

But people don't give them enough credit or bother to look on the first pages to see if there is a thread already on this :P

haha hey now, its not that I'm looking down on people who have brought me enjoyable games for the past few years! I just got exited to throw down my idea for what might be cool to see. I mean honestly, faction based hang down banners on the rook that blow in the wind... it would just be neat :-P I mean, honestly I have no clue how to make a game but if I saw an idea I threw in the forums go into an enjoyable game I would prolly crap my pants..... twice. :-) as for the stability core issues... I came in so late that everything I could have said has been spoken, then burned, and the earth around it salted so I just wanted to wave into the depths of the forums that are Demigod and say "Hello" :-)

You've got to have great names for the AI in the beta like "Steven Seagull" and "Chuck Morris". Beta's are supposed to maintain that sense of humor to keep everyone(developers, artists, testers) from cracking under the stress of the final release push.

Just make sure you pick some real names before it goes gold.
