Max activations reached?

I recently have started the Demigod beta and I've installed on both my PC and laptop and it will no longer let me reinstall after a format of the lappy. :(

I tried reinstalling on the PC and it worked fine but the laptop is a no-go.

Is there a way to reset activations on a certain machine?

Thanks in advanced,

and btw, the beta is awesome.

Very impressive for being the first beta released and (was) running smoothly on Vista on my MacBook Pro.

Graphics are jaw-dropping. The epicness of the creep and heroes is just stunning.

Hmm, that's very odd. Is your account still active on the lappy's copy of impulse? If not, I'd recommend archiving the dl from the desktop, transferring it to the laptop and installing from that. On the desktop, right click download and archive, transfer the archive to the lappy, and I'm not sure what to do on the lappy, but try hitting the orb in the upper left and hitting Restore Archive. That may work if getting your account logged in on the lappy doesn't solve it.

Will try, I'll let you know soon if it works. :D

If you install a product and activate it many times this can happen. The default limit is very high and people should very rarely reach it under normal usage (heck, I work here and install stuff all the time, and have only ever had to have it reset once).

Contact support@stardock.com and they can reset it for you.

Wow... I'm amazed. The limit is very very high. I got a warning that I was past it, but that was back in sins, and it wasn't a hard limit, just a 'be warned, we're instituting a limit' back then. That's what three betas in quick succession and a very flaky third computer will do to you.

I've opened up a ticket at Stardock Support so I hope they can help me resolve this issue.

Not to be prude, but isn't Stardock's bread and butter DRM free games? If I can't even install a game more than 3-5 times doesn't that defeat the whole purpose? I can understand if there were 30 installs within an hour at various IP addresses across the globe but in my case it just doesn't seem fair.

I'll update when I find out more from Stardock. Thank you both for your help.

DRM free as in "no disc or internet check to run the program" and "fair activation limits", not "please steal this program".

um... you can isntall 450084583485408 times.

You can only activate 3-5.

If you could activate 3053405034503 times then pirates could activate all on the same key and get all the features of a legit user.

If you can activate 3 that is GENEROUS to me.  I'd only expect 2 activatations.. one for desktop and one for laptop.  I don't see why a legit user  should need to activate more than 1 time.

As long as you can unactivate(and not need the activated comp to unactivate.. so you don't lose them from reinstalls) 3 activations should be no problem for everyone but pirates.

the activation limit is more than 3 and more than 5 even. it's very high.  Usually when this happens it's due to a computer glitch where it's activating hundreds of times.

And that said..

You should be able to reset all activations without contacting support.  But I guess that's a problem since stardocks games don't phone home all the time. :/

You can do it photoshop and illustrator.  If you use an activation you have to uninstall to unactivate, but that's a problem if a computer crashes.  So you can just reset all activations to activate when you install windows again and install photoshop/illustrator.

But those programs phone home every time you load them up to check the activations..

It's part of making customers feel like customers. If a person just happens to have quite a lot of computers or forget to activate a lot when formatting or having problems or trying to free up some space, should they not be able to play?

So how would I go about deactivating so I can reactivate? Is that an option in Impulse?

It doesn't work like that. However, as above you can simply contact support@stardock.com to have it reset.
