ANZAC Empire, 'Bridging the Ditch' Thread

ANZAC Empire, 'Bridging the Ditch' Thread

Yes Well... *cough* I was a little tired of posting on the Aussie Empire thread. ;)

*Intentionally cheesy opening Address*

So gather round all you ANZAC Citizens, Lend Me Your Ears... and your games, Forget whether your accent is more nasally than your neighbours and Post those Gigantic Games on Masochistic Difficulty! *pause for applause* Now Begone and play Galactic Civilizations till you starve, then play some more! Think GalCiv, Dream GalCiv, (Breath GalCiv?) ...Be THE GalCiv! and return only when you have defeated the evil intergalactic minions that plague us and halt our advance up the metaverse board.

*cough*

Yup, Let's beat em Guys.

surthur - You ARE in the ANZAC thread, mate, even though you're talking to people living in a Colony Formerly Known As The British Empire.....

....and don't think we've forgotten the Mid-West Confed when it comes to our guerilla campaign......

So, I visit these cool customers a lot. Can't a man have friendly enemies? ;) Besides, I am safer from their %^$# suicide sheep when I am here. :p

Yiha! I'm a member of your tribe! Ouch . . . heya those drop bears have claws, yikes!

Wrelease the wrabid, wraging, steroid enhanced, salavating 'Bunyip kinda type looking creature' . . . I'll be keeping her on a leash most the time. A 'virtual' Lammington for all . . . down girl, down its not real food. LOL . . . ehm.

But seriously, I was wondering about Star Building and Galaxy Building Tech, what useful applications come from that . . . any obsessive terra formers here. :notsure:

(I'm getting a neud CPU tommorrow 'I'm ExCiTed!')
A nude CPU? That does sound kind of exciting....I guess....if you're into that sort of thing.....

I can see you're the kind of woman we need here, Cotal....must recruit you to help cause havoc among our enemies (ie bascially everyone other than ANZAC) - and thanks for the lamington!

Ah, the legendary drop bears......these poor northern hemisphere fools don't know what they're in for.... :HOT:

You can test your nerd-ness (well geek-ness actually) at http://www.innergeek.us/geek.html

I am only 22% geek :)
Heh, heh, heh... we will launch a wave of drop-bears at the pirate scum, we will make them live in fear, and we will have them walking around with their heads always tilted towards the sky.

Then, they won't see the suicide sheep on their next charge...

Btw, as for making stars, etc., it's just a tease so far. Maybe something to look forward to in GalCiv 2. :)

Geez...I only scored 28% on the geek test, I must be doing something wrong...must wear more poket protectors....

Welcome to all the new faces in the ANZAC Empire - c'mon team, lets get 'em! LOL

I rated only 20% geekiness. I managed to convince my best friend to take the test. I KNEW he was going to score way above me. He did: nearly 46%. Scary.

Ahhh...I did, my friend....I have made it to Allan Border mode :CONGRAT:

I wish i could.
I over write my saved games on a regular bases so I have lost those two..
But have no fear I'm currently defending all minor civilations from the insidious interference of with those do gooders Alterian clones. They had already forced the poor Arcean into a no win war against me-My slavers have already divided the Arcean spoils up.

OK...I've started over with a new nickname and a new alignment. What a nightmare that has been trying to work out how to change an email address and register different details in the maze of Stardock and Wincustomize etc etc. At least I have an Aussie flavoured name and my Pure Evil alignment that I was seeking.

Would it be an idea if players regularly put up their current strategies in this forum? I note that the other Empires discuss their strategies more than the ANZACs.

Also, quite a few players have registered but never posted. How are they going? Do they read this thread, or just choose not to post? I suppose if they choose not to post we'll never know whether they are still playing Galciv.

Has everyone updated to the latest version of the game? If you care about scores, earlier versions don't score highly.

Is everyone a beer drinker, or are there some red wine drinkers out there?

Is our current exploding sheep strategy working, or are there better ways to dominate the Metaverse? Do we accept that the ANZACs are a minor power and let it be?

Just a few thoughts. :)

Love Beer. Love wine too.

Some lame empires put theirs up in their own top secret forum like it's some secret perk. Happily, Anzac is not one of those.

It's working. Keep em coming. They make good rugs.

Ah Pontius, just don't burn out on those gigantic games. You gave me quite a scare last week. How many games will you need to post to get a Very Evil moniker I wonder?

Our purpose with the exploding sheep wasn't actually for you guys to make rugs either. ;p

Space Wombat, that last sheep at the secret bunker of the Euros sure stirred things up. Gotta luv 'em. Hopefully I've got the poor White Council looking over their shoulders, too paralysed with fear to actually play the game. Time will tell. On to my second game to keep the ball rolling.

Agreed - its just not our style. Personally, I'm enjoying the satire on the boards because it seems a generally fun group of people who don't take stuff too seriously, but we could do more as a group, I guess, to improve playing. I never really wanted to be SUPER fixated on the scoring but if you read the other Empire threads, I doubt we would ever compete with them (eg the fact they have 'secret' web sites gives you some idea of the mentality involved). I tried way back to ask for tips, and I notice Cotal also didn't get much feedback for her question a page or two back (my fault too!). I wonder if Aussie consumers a) picked up this game in significant numbers, now that it's available at local EBs and b) are generally people who like to get stuck into this sort of thing on the Net? Anyway, I'd be happy to start throwing topics into the mix regarding strategy and tactics, if the group generally wants to go that way. Any thoughts?

I have just declared the ANZAC Empire "Masters of the Southern Hemisphere" (no argument from Africa or South America) so we can at least be content with dominating half the planet. It is becoming more difficult to get the sheep through the other Empires' security, so I suggest we consider....releasing the drop bears [shudder]..... :sniff!:

Actually, the Gigantic games are more fun. I don't milk em at all. I finish by 2200 or so right in there. Balanced game. It's precisely the peeps playing Normal smalls and mediums and milking em for all they are worth, Finishing in 2230 or worse (total milk jobs, total lameness) making sure they go through all the hoops to get tons of points that will burn out.

Gigantic actually lends itself to more fun b/c I can score reasonably without milking at all.

Tips
1. I usually take Populists +2 speed +2 pop growth or +1 econ on the Gigantics.
2. On smaller maps I take Federalists +20 morale +20 influence +1 speed or some other combo.
I NEVER take military, Science, or producion bonuses. I don't end up needing em.
3. He who wins the colony rush, usually wins.
4. You can play from behind in tech if you are skillful in diplomacy.
5. Give Bribes to those you know will be extorting you BEFORE!!! they actually do it. You end up choosing the form of payment rather than having it dictated to you. The aliens inevitably demand something critical to your success from you. Give them non critical things first. It will delay them till you build up a force.
6. On colony ships purchased consider the second lease down from the top. It only hampers you about a year. Then it's paid.
7. Try to minimize leasing wonders early. The new terms will kill you in the long run. It's better to go after the key ones you want rather than spend yourself into a pickle trying to get them all.
8. Play a level that will give you a challenge.
9. Instead of upping all the ai's a level at a time, try upping only the Yor and Drengin first. Then once you have that down, up the Arceans, then the Torians, and lastly the Altarians.
