AI Seems a bit lacking?

**Not sure if this is the right section to post, I apologize in advance** Overall I've found Sins of a Solar Empire to be an excellent and flawless experience and is definitely refreshing given the long line of games that have come out recently that seem stale and just stick to the "Lets copy off of Warcraft" ideal. Anyway the biggest complaint I have is the fact that the AI just ... sucks? Me and my friend did a 3v3 with Hard computers and our Teammate did just fine and the enemy team harassed us for the first 30 minutes so it was a bit of a challenge.... ...However, once we managed to amass a large enough force the strike back we found that the AI Player(s) would simply run and jump away from us even when they had a lareger force on multiple ocassions. I've played and love RTS's for quite a long time and I've always noticed that every RTS has near to nonexistant intelligence when it comes to AI and playing again computers/bots. Is there any planning on upgrading the AI or was Sins built more with the idea of player versus player multiplayer in mind?

Play AI on Unfair instead of hard. It can be quite a challenge that way.

Do they at least not run at the sight of one enemy ship? lol

well the Ai won't fight a losing battle it doesn't want to lose all of its ships thats why they run away. so if you have more ships then them they will most likely run

on unfair the Ai gets a resorse bonus so they start out much faster than you can. and they will probably have more ships than you so they won't run as easily.

The Sins AI is actually superior in many ways to traditional RTS AI because it doesn't rely so much on build lists and set paths, and it's mostly data-driven so it tries to adapt to how the game goes. That's also why it retreats, because it ends up not wanting to lose its fleet. It uses some sort of weighing system that compares its own fleet strength vs yours, and takes other factors into account (whether it's defending or attacking, how much it wants that planet, etc).

Most people agree that it still retreats a little too much, but it retreats much less than it used to. It has been getting better with patches, and if you aren't running 1.05 you should be. There's also some consensus that it's doing better still in the 1.09 beta.

The AI is more limited than a traditional 4X AI, though, since it doesn't get the privilege of essentially an infinite amount of time to decide between player turns, and has to do everything real-time.

Make sure you play on maps without neutral resource nodes, they tend to really confuse the AI. Afaik it's fixed in 1.09, but I didn't test it myself yet.

I think it's definitely better in the beta. I used to could semi-reliably take on two unfair AIs and defeat them if I was Advent or Vasari. Now one is my limit.

Yeah, sure, if I had three hours free a day to do it I probably would.

I understand your complaint as does everyone else who has posted. The AI does retreat a little too much in my opinion even if it does calculate your fleet being superior. In my opinion the computer needs to take in to account that if it keeps retreating it will lose many of its' worlds. And the more worlds you have, the more resources you have to pump out the ships you need to beat the better fleet. The AI is just digging its' own grave by running until it reaches its' capital world (where the AI will now fight you  :CONGRAT: ). The AI has lost most of its' planets and now has no resource income to build a better fleet.

Most likely the solution to this is as everyone says, play against Unfair AI. But I don't know, I personally think the AI needs a lesson in tactics. It needs to at least whittle away at some of your ships. :HOT:
