What the point???

So what's the point of having, Artifacts other then having add-ons for you fleets/worlds/empire. When you leave game it says, "researched artifacts", when there's none to research.

Help please

If you mouse over the artifacts you have in the research window, it will tell you what it does in the infocard. Same with mousing over planets with artifacts and planetary bonuses.

Researched artifacts are actually "found" artifacts - you found them by exploring planets and worked out what they did by researching them...

When you find Artifacts they automatically give you bonuses as long as you hold the world they were found on. No research required just have to explore.

I know you don't actually need to do research. I am talking about in the context of finding one - you find it and once you figure out what it does, you get the bonus.
Anyone who knows anything about Sci-fi knows that a scientist has to study an artifact, maybe get someone killed or whatever before they work out what it does and how to use it. So since they show up on the research tab, ergo they were "researched" (immediately, for free) and hence show up on research screen...

Oh... I got kinda confused with your openning post. Sorry for my error. But I am still partially confused, of course a scientist has to research the artifact like you said... Soooo exactly what is it or was it that you thought was pointless? I mainly want to know cause I personally couldn't figure it out, it is probably very obvious, but it keeps illuding me.
