Customizing Issues?

I have added the details for an issue to the MainIssues.PM2IssuesXML file, but the issue does not appear in the game. Does the issue need to be added into other files? Or is there no way to do this?

I'm going to check with one of the other developers who worked on that.  He already left for today, but hopefully tomorrow we should be able to get you an answer.

Well, you need to make sure you are modifying the right file. You most likely modified the file located at "The Political Machine 2008\Data\English\Issues\MainIssues.PM2IssuesXML". At one point during development, the game did use that file. But then we created multiple scenarios and wanted each scenario to have its own unique issues. As an example, we wouldn't want "Slave Pit Reformation" showing up as an Issue in any other scenario besides the Drengi scenario. To solve this, each scenario has its own "MainIssues.PM2IssuesXML" file, and it is located in a sub-folder of this path: "The Political Machine 2008\Data\English\Maps\".

So, if you were trying to add your issue to the Drengi scenario, modify the "MainIssues.PM2IssuesXML" file located at "The Political Machine 2008\Data\English\Maps\Drengi\MainIssues.PM2IssuesXML".

Once you have done so, you can easily test to see that it works by:
  • starting up a game and playing the scenario with the modified issues file..
  • when you get to the map screen, click the "candidate" button in the bottom left hand corner...
  • that screen will have your candidate details, grouped by characteristic or issues..
  • click the "issues" tab of that to see an alphabetical list of all issues and how you stand on them.
  • Your issue will be in the list.
Hope that helps. Let me know if you need more assistance or if I have misunderstood your problem.

Okay, I've got it working now. Thanks.

Also, I've noticed that the description for Withdrawal From Iraq says "TODO: Write an interesting description.||Immediate Withdrawal from Iraq"
