Does anyone know if adding more engines to a freighter before sending it off to make a trade lane changes anything other than how quickly it get's there the first time? like, can faster freighters make more money?? and if not, is there anything else you can do to milk a few more BCs out of them?! (other than the economy bases)

More engines only help establish the route faster. Other than that, the only addition that sometimes can make sense are better sensors.

Adding life support modules extends your range and the value of a trade route increases with distance. Once established, I believe the routes will get more valuable with time. Researching trade also unlocks your econ capital which can be a major revenue enhancer.

I put all three types on my trade ships
More engines to get there faster.
More life support to go farther for more trade value.
More sensors to see around them like ship build up or those nasty spore ships, as they pass through areas while they are in trade route or going to a planet.
See I do
