Help on paying off pirates - single player

Why does my bribe money disappear?

OK.  The countdown timer goes down to 0.  There is an announcement that a pirate raid is imminent.  There is bribe money (50) on my head and not on anybody else.  I click on a button to put 250 on somebody else.  That money disappears but the money on my head remains (an announcement that there is no profit...).  I click on the button to put another 250 on the same enemy.  Again, that money disappears - same announcement - but the original 50 on my head is still there.  I end up wasting 1000, and it ends up that the pirates attack me because of that original 50 (the ony amount remaining when the raid commences).  If there is any logic in this, I don't see it.  Could someone explain to me what is going on?  I find it totally frustrating.

It sounds like someone was already beating on the person you were putting money on. Remember, the money isn't JUST for pirates, its for anyone who attacks that player, so as long as someone is destroying ships/structures, they can earn parts of the bounty.

Don't forget lad, that's in single player, he's talking about, so I,d be surprised to see other players in that version of the game.

Just to know, when the money disappears, is it all at once, or is it over a certain amount of time? Because it's happened to me too, before, but I discovered that when there are already pirates at the CPU's plants, then the bounty that you set is decreased, because of the ships the pirates are already destroying.

Heres how the bounty system works.

Example names:
Joe (Empire A)
John (Empire B)
Bill (Empire C)

Bill has 1000 allready on his head from someone else so, Bill puts 1000 on John's head.

But at that same time Joe is kicking John's ass the bounty on John will go down.

But since noneone is attacking Bill, his bounty does not change.

If there is 1000 Bounty on John, if anyone DESTROYS ONE OF JOHN's SHIPS OR STRUCTURES, the destroyer will get a % of the value of what he destroyed the moment the thing is destroyed.

Bounty goes to anyone, Rebels, Pirates, Other Empires, or even the guys that start at a planet before anyone colonizes it.
