Windows Vista Default package not working

I'm not sure what has happened here.  I wasn't happy with some of the icon packages I tested as they were not complete.  I restored back to the Vista default icons.  Today I noticed some icons like .doc files had a blank icon so I tried to apply the default icons again.  I get this message:

"There has been an error loading the " icon package.
Please re-install the package and try again."

Obviously I did not load this package to begin with...it came with Vista.  I do NOT want to simply re-install Vista.  Any ideas?  I did the whole rebuid cache and all that from the settings.

In addition to the above, random file icon associations are missing as a result. I guess it is a result of the fact the default icon package is corrupt...i.e. MS Word files....but not Excel files. Re-installing the app does not help and I have also tried to create a new user...same result.

I have a similar problem. My Live Folders have not reverted back to the Windows Default, and some other files, such as .ini's, will not revert either. I too have tried to use "rebuild cache" and the similar options.

That's because they released this product without testing to see if the basic functions work.

That is not the case.  The QA folks at Stardock are top notch as are the developers and the beta testers that are such a huge part of the Stardock "team'.  PCs are complex and you can never test every interaction of HW and SW.

If you are having trouble, create a case by emailing support@stardock.com.  Give as much information about your OS and the version of IP that you are using.  make reference to this post.

Please, whilst I understand that you are only trying to be helpful, there is no need to create a cloud of ignorance here.
My problems with this application have been listed in a seperate thread, see here: https://forums.stardock.com/320230

Everyone that is using Vista experiences either the same or similar issues. There are no 'if's' or 'but's'; we're talking about issues that keep cropping up.
Problems with the most basic features of the application, problems that do not take some kind of vastly different software installation or hardware make-up to cause.

There are no flukes, they are not caused by conflicting applications, they ARE caused by IconPackager.
I have already e-mailed Stardock numerous times now about issues, the 3rd time my e-mail was ignored and a ticket was not placed.
They did acknowledge the e-mail I sent about the Activation.exe bug, but because I did not visit this forum prior to using IconPackager, I was unware that this issue had already been escalated to their dev team.

If they fix these problems in the next release, great, I really hope they do. It might the only thing that puts some kind of belief into me that they are actually trying to support Vista.
We should not be paying for a product that means to restore something back to normal would be to re-install the OS completely.

I have Vista and didn't have all of the problems you had.  I'm not saying that they are not real or that they don't need to be addressed but Stardock is out to make money and fully functional apps are their way of doing so.  I find it hard to believe that they would release buggy software to the masses without testing.  In fact, I know it's the case.

Regarding the issues, you just stated "I'm not saying that they are not real or that they don't need to be addressed", and then claimed to know that Stardock would not release buggy software.

I'm sorry, but are we missing something here?

There is an abundance of threads complaining about the same problem and you're trying to defend Stardock? isn't the point of this thread to actually report bugs, discuss how to fix them and warn users of potential problems?

I might have been a little more forgiving if I hadn't been using Stardock products since 2006, then making the move onto Vista; it was just an appauling introduction for me to experience so many problems within the space of a few hours.
First impressions count, and to experience these problems on a perfectly maintained machine did not leave me with a confident feeling in my stomach.

"First impressions"?  I've been a user since 1999 and has seen lots of bugs come and go.  Most have been in the beta builds that SD releases for testing purposes and some that affected large numbers of users in full releases.  Most however are due to user specific issues.  In every case though Stardock has stepped up to resolve the issue.

"Buggy software" does not equal "doesn't work on my PC". A perfect piece of software may still have a conflict due to user settings or other applications.

My point is that your attack or assessment on the QA team is misplaced.  They cannot test every configuration.

In any case, every email to support@stardock.com creates a case or updates an existing one.  Please be aware that every time you update a case yours goes to the end of the queue.  I have every confidence (based on years of experience with Stardock) that the issue will be resolved.

I do not think it was misplaced, but I look forward to hearing what they have to say, and also how the next version performs.

My icons went "GOODBYE" after I installed "ObjectDesktop".
You are not alone, we may not have the same exact problem but we share some of the same symptoms. I hope Stardock gets back to us soon!
