Pre Order this game?

This game looks totally fun and I would love to participate in the Beta.  I could see this being a really great game.  I have some questions though that I would like answered if anybody knows.

1.  I noticed 2 types of demigods, that doesn't mean you can only choose from 2 fighters to control though does it?  I don't want to HAVE to be the rock guy if I want to be a solo assasin type.  Does anyone know?  Or do some sort of specialization trees change these guys?

2.  If I pre-order I want to guaruntee that I get to play the beta, otherwise I'll just wait till february to try the game out when its done instead of put my info in now.  Anyone know if I'm too late?

I guess thats good enough, if I could get answers to 1 and 2 I'm in!  Thanks so much for any replies.

1. 'Assassin' and 'general' just describe playstyles. There'll be a bunch that fall under each, and possibly some that blur the lines, according to the interview on GameSpot.

2. There'll be a post here when it's too late, and additionally there should be several phases--you can enter at any one of the phases with a preorder at the right time.

1) I think at least 7 Demigods have been revealed so far. They are divided up into two types - Generals which build units and Assassins which do more direct attacks - but each type has several different Demigods to choose from. For example, the Assassins also have a sniper-angel, a big dog-like monster called the Unclean Beast, and an undead viking called the Torch Bearer.

2) As far as I know, preordering now will still get you into the beta.

Thanks for the quick reply guys, this game looks awesome and I need something to do with my gaming time right now. I'd love to assist and make this game as good as possible and give my feedback to the devs in the beta. I watched the trailor one more time and am sold, I'm officially signed up now (pre purchased the game). Thanks again!

Edit - You said there are 7 others, I see them in the trailor, do you have a link to more information about them? I'm dieing to read more now.

We are working on some stuff at Gamereplays but there isn't really a central place for information. Hopefully we can set something up :)

I have a couple questions as well:
-Will there be a NDA, a non-disclosure agreement? If there will be such a thing, when will it be lifted?
-Will the players have control over the units created by the generals, or will it keep a more "DotA" feeling? What about the ones that come from the portal?
-Will there be items?
-If someone preorders after August 1st, will he still have a chance to enter Phase 1, or will he have to wait until october?

1) I doubt there will be an NDA, but who knows.
2) I think Generals can control their units while normal creeps are automatic.
3) Assassins get items.
4) Not sure.

We don't know a lot about anything really atm, but Chirmaya and others have been compiling what we have gathered and guessed here:

(none of this is pure fact yet :))

Our general preorder betas don't have NDAs, no.

So long as you preorder before the beta begins, and we haven't announced that it's full yet, you'll be in, AFAIK.

Thanks a lot!
I can't wait to try it (although, well, I'm sure Phase 1 isn't the one to look forward to :p )

I'd suspect Generals and Assassins both get items though the items they choose to buy/upgrade will likely be different.

As Renius has said, relatively few of us on these forums have actually played the alpha, If its from the following:
hughferriss - Nate Simpson (Lead Artist)
draginol - Developer
Timpulse - Tim Cox (Character Artist)

or if they have a stardock emblem by their name:
frogboy - Brad Wardell CEO of Stardock
Kryo

Take ear and listen.

If its not from one of the above, its likely just heresay or speculation.

It should be noted that draginol and frogboy are just the same person ;)

You forgot John "Scathis" Comes, lead designer of Demigod.

A friend of mine wants to preorder and wants to know if he can get the game in another language at release (namely, french). Or will he be stuck with the english version?

That would depend on the details of the deal with the European publisher of the game, so we can't really answer that right now.
