Just bought the standard Object Desktop..

..and having a lot of problems getting the apps to run.

My system is a Windows Vista 64 bit, 8 gb ram, 2x3000mhz cpu and 8800gt gfx.

1. After I installed OD, many icons on my desktop and start menu just disappeared and replaced with blank sheet icons.

2. If I try to open Impulse, it first asks for permission to start, then I get "Impulse was not able to create its temporary directories. Please try again, permitting administrator access when requested." I tried to run it as administrator, but then I got: "You have executed Impulse as administrator, which is not recommended and can have undesirable effects.." I click "Restart impulse as non-admin", nothing happens. Then I try to open it as administrator again, and it seemingly stars as it should.

3. I try to start Windowblinds from the start menu, and I get this after giving the program my e-mail and serial.no.:

Problemsignatur:
  Navn på problemhendelse:    BEX
  Programnavn:    Activate.exe

  OS-versjon:    6.0.6001.2.1.0.256.1
  ID for nasjonal innstilling:    1044
  Tilleggsinformasjon 1:    abda
  Tilleggsinformasjon 2:    bf796fb337e7b208e3f054e6966adf83

  Tilleggsinformasjon 4:    4d6975e191592a8db657c587e2f30254
[/NORWEGIAN]

Then windowblinds start.

4. If I try to start Icon Packager from the start menu, nothing happens.

5. If I try to start DeskScapes, and get to where I can choose an animation, the product activation window pops up, I give it my e-mail address and serial.no, but I get error message: "Error activating the product", then it opens notepad.. sigh.

6. I can see I got ONE (1) serialnumber with the order, but I can't get it to work on most of the apps. One app even told me that it had the wrong format..!

bagbiter, you'll save yourself a ton of frustration if you present this issue to support@stardock.com and open a problem ticket for this.

From what it sounds like, you need a bit more help than just a simple fix.

I've had problems over the years and I've got to say that Stardock Support is by far one of the best Teams around. So they will get back to you in a timely fashion.

I truly hope you have good luck with resolving this.

Simple thing you can try first:

uninstall Impulse in it's current form.

Install the Full version through here:  http://www.impulsedriven.com/impulse_setup_full.exe

Be sure to restart after uninstalling, before downloading and installing the new version. If that does not work please let us know at support@stardock.com as Hankers said.

As a side note that is a great deal of complications at once. I would look around in your system for other troubles that are occurring as it sounds like this is more involved than simply skinning software.

lol :) I didn't think I had to update any apps, as I bought it yesterday, so I thought they would've included all the latest updates.

I just ran the updates through Impulse, and voila. All seems fine..!

Thanks for a great product.

PS: got any suggestions for a low profile, minimalistic skin for windowblinds?

Okay, a little more info please. Just what happened? Did you have any other customizing software running when you installed ObjectDesktop? I agree with you that you shouldn't have lost you Icons. Are they desktop icons or in your taskbar?

No other software running, clean install on new PC.
Icons on the lower right side are OK, It's the Icons on the lower left side that have gone "white" "empty" . They still launch the assoc. program. I right click on some Icons and do a "change Icon" I am able to get some of them back. But after a reboot, they go "white" empty again. I go into the program folder (program files) where programs are stored, and it's like OBJECTDESKTOP took an erraser to the icons. They are empty white boxes.

NEW Update, when I launch the "ObjectDesktop Launcher", I get the following message. "Object Desktop does not appear to be set up correctly. Launch Impulse to correct this? Yes No

I used the http:/stardock.cachefly.net ... .... link on my confermation email to download the software.

I have serrious reservations about using "Impulse". I am hoping someone from Stardock Support will read my email trail and have pitty on me and help with this problem

HaywoodU it's possible that you just got a bad download. You might want to try uninstall, run a clean up program like CCleaner and reboot, reinstall and reboot again. Then do the registration that should have been mention in your email.

If that doesn't work you will need to email support@stardock.com

I use Impulse on an XP system and have not experienced any problems.  ;)

Thanks Philly. I am not sure if this is an Impulse or a ObjectDesktop problem (or a combination of the two). I decided to wait until I hear a solution from STARDOCK because it seems there are a number of people who have has similar problems and Stardock MUST have a solution by now. I keep you psoted.
