Control Panel Icon will not change

Hello, I just installed iconpackager and have tried to apply multiple icon themes.  However, my control panel icon will not change from its current one.  As far as I can tell from my wife's PC, it still has the default Vista one.  Can anyone explain why this is happening?  All of the themes I have been applying have a control panel replacement icon in them.  Thanks.

have you tried a rebuild and/or repair?

Have you tried deleting it from the desktop, then in the start menu,r-click control panel and select show on desktop to re-apply it?It should then use the correct icon from the IP.
I have to do this sometimes (Vista thing I think) to get it or "computer" to change.
Please note the control panel has to be in home view, not classic,or the icon won't appear at all, just text.If you have text disabled, you'll see nada.

I've tried a rebuild and repair. Also, removing it from the desktop and re-adding it. I never had it

on the desktop anyways. From the start menu, desktop, and my computer...the icon won't change from the

default. I didn't have the control panel in home mode but I do now...no change. For the themes that

have customized icons for inside the control panel, those work but not the actual CP icon. Any more

ideas?

On my start menu, the icons stay at default Vista for Control Panel as well as Default Programs and Connect To. All others match the IP.
I am using a Vista package(AlienwareInvader).Either by design or by bug,I don't think they change on the start menu.
You were not clear on where the icons were located. ;)

Oh well...perhaps it is by design. But, I cannot find anywhere mine changes. Not on the desktop,

start menu, or my computer. I'm not sure where else the control panel shows up.

Try this:
r-click on computer desktop icon>create shortcut>delete computer icon.
r-click on computer shortcut>select properties>change icon>browse to
public documents>stardock>IP>themes.
select the IP you are using, the explorer window will display the package, pick an icon>open>ok>apply.
Repeat for control panel.
Probably the hard way,but it will change those two desktop icons.

I think i found the problem. In iconpackager, there is a look and feel tab. If you click on the

preview tab off of that, all looks good. But if I go to the icons and cursors tab, the control panel

icon shows as the default one there in the "start" tab. If I change it an apply...the icon changes in

the start menu. Why this doesn't get applied by default is beyond me. I don't see a setting that

addresses this. It seems to be this way for all my icon packages.

If I change it an apply...the icon changes in

the start menu.

I'm going to have to try that, thanks.I don't use desktop shortcuts or change my icons often,I usually run a DX theme.Learn something every day. ;)

Why this doesn't get applied by default is beyond me.

That's a darn good question. :NOTSURE:

Thanks Popollo22, your idea worked! :-D  For months I've been trying to figure out how to change the Control Panel icon for each IconPackager theme I uploaded with no success but your idea worked perfectly. For some reason all my other desktop icons changed except the contol panel one. Thanks again.
