help with diplomacy please!!!

Ok so I just got the game and am struggling to figure out how to accept missions from the Computer players in the game.  For instance I receive a mission to destroy a building or something.  How do you accept the mission and how do you know which civilization I am supposed to attack, where to attack, etc....??? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You don't actually accept anything. They give it to you and you either do it or not. The diplomacy screen shows you either how many resources to give, or the empire color and icon plus the number of targets to destroy. Ships will show a little ship icon, logistics structures will show a gear and tactical will show a turret.

All you have to do is basically fly over to the target empire and finish the mission before the timer expires.

Ship/Building destruction missions are only given against empires within 2 jumps of any of your border planets. Unfortunately, stars are included, so sometimes you do have to fly to another star system.
