Anticipating CPU lag for 1.1 -- too many strikecraft?

I was just thinking about how, in 1.1, building strikecraft carriers will be more worthwhile and then it occurred to me -- what if each carrier can carry 2 or 3 strikecraft? If a carrier costs about 6 supply points and people start spamming them out, that means that for every 6 supply points, instead of having just one LRM, you end up with 3 or 4 units that CPUs have to keep track of.

I can't speak for other people, but I play on a Socket 939 Athlon 4400 overclocked to 2.4 Ghz and I set Sins to run on a single core and move all of my other programs to the other core, and when two 1500+ supply point fleets meet, my CPU maxxes out and the game lags.

So, is it possible that one of the side effects of 1.1 might be increased CPU-lag at lower supply point fleet sizes? Are there any settings (Effects menu?) that could be tweaked to reduce the load on CPUs?

That core setup dosn't sound very efficent...

It's possible. Though going heavy strikecraft doesn't seem to affect my system much. Of course, it lags either way...

Aractain--you think I just let all programs including Sins have affinity for both cores? Sins is single-core only more or less, or at least one large main thread and then a small secondary thread as I understand it.

Carriers have 2-3 squadrons, with an appropriate scaling in cost as well as fleet point cost. There was a dev post about it. I'll find the link, if you want.

hey could you tell me how you set sins and to run on one core and everything else on another? ive got a dual core 2.4 ghz each

Task Manager - Processes - Right click - Set Affinity...

Be careful with these things, if you start messing with random stuff without knowing what it'll do, you could crash the computer.

So basically you've denied half of your processor resources to the game and are wondering why it is running slow. HMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..............

Sins really only uses one core anyways. You could have a quad core and it's still not going to run faster. Better to have the one core dedicated only to the game.

Jep. I normally assign Core #1 (core 2) to Sins and assign everything else--Firefox, Soma FM on Windows Media Player, IRC, etc. to Core #0.
