Time for me to test the waters... I have run into this situation a number of times and the following has always worked for me (ususally the problem arose after doing numerous installs and/or un-installs, for whatever reason)
Go to Start and type in (without the quotes) msconfig and doubleclick on the .exe entry.
This will bring up a screen of various options, the one you want is Services... once you click on it you will be given an amazing view of running services on your machine... by scrolling down approximately 3/4 of your screen you will find DESKTOP WINDOWS MANAGER SESSION MANAGER. In all likliehood your system will indicate STOPPED and the checkbox will be empty. Click on the checkbox to enable the Desktop Manager to run. Click on "Apply" and exit... one last thing if you run dual or quad core sytems, click on Boot, Advanced and once on that screen, check to see how many processors are enabled... click on the checkbox, pick your processor total (Core i7 choose 8, for example), click OK, exit, click "Apply", exit and reboot... with luck you will boot a little quicker and Deskscapes should be running normally...
Hope this helps,
