Discovering "ATTACK ________"

Firstly, I want to thank KzintiPatriarch and HighWater for helping with this...

I wanted to go up a level in difficulty, and in another thread this came up. I had been totally oblivious to it being the "non diplomatic" type that I am. So on a large map with abundant every set to Tough I set out to see how it all worked...

What did I find? That I have truly discovered the power of "ATTACK ______", and it rocks!

I was minding my own business, carving a nice corner of the galaxy for myself. Finances good, Tech good. Production a little slow, and as usaual dragging my feet a little in ship building until I had a decent ship to build. I start cranking out some good heavy fighters and Medium ships are just coming online Whwn the Thalens decide I am too weak and pathetic to stay in the universe. I find my ships are pretty even at first and hold my own, but decide now is as good a time as any to test this new attack thingy thingy.

Oh what fun it is to drive... The Thalens all away...

I was quite pleased with myself after dragging 4 races into war against them... Quite fun to watch all their ships bug out back home as the other races swoop in. I now have 6 planets of theirs. I have them running, and have refused peace 3 times now when they came begging.

Have to truly say it was one of those "gee whiz" moments... It's definitely going to be an ever growing part of my strategy from now on.

You're most welcome.
Bribing other races to do your dirty business is one of the better aspects of the game. ;) Offering to attack someone can be fun too, though I haven't used that in ages (and it's not nearly as effective is bribing others to go to war, but it's a way to make some extra cash from a war you were going to start anyhow, can only do it with one race though, after that you're at war).

I can't play without diplomacy. My entire strategy is based on it. I always set people up against each other so that I have time to build up some forces.

Funny that you mention that, because I very recently realized the awesomeness of this tactic too.

I'm up to playing on masochistic, and this has literally saved me from extermination.

Quick story: Altarians were ranked like 7th out of 8 in military, then they EXPLODED with medium ships with lots of beams (everyone else was still using small). Before I could boost my military, they declared war on me. I was Terrans btw.

My only chance was to sic the military powerhouse the Korath (#1 in military by probly a factor of 3). They took the bait for very cheap, and I managed to recover, rebuild, and eventually win the game. The Korath got mean on me, but I got 2 races to fight them for cash haha.
