FLAG/MOTHER SHIPS

I'm sure im not the only one who really wants to see flag ships put into sins of a solar empire.

I always liked the idea of a monsterously large ship that has many abitilities and huge weapons to let rip on enemy fleets.

so post your views on flag/mother ships plz

Im thinking kind of along the lines of the ships in Eve online.

I like the idea a lot. Only 1 per player at a time. Having a flagship/mothership in a system could also provide a passive combat bonus for all the user's ships (eg increased damage/hull or shield strength/weapon cooldown due to increased morale) and if it gets destroyed by an enemy then there could be a system-wide or even game-wide loss of combat ability/resource gathering, etc due to decreased morale.

Of course they should be very expensive and take a while to build.

i also lke the idea and i think there should be 2 types for each race, 1 for combat and 1 for heavy support.

Why would you limit the amount though? There should be an unlimited amount, but perhaps make a LOT of deterrents from being able to get more. Perhaps the credits, metal, and crystal needed could doubled for each one, along with an increase in fleet capacity (twice, then four times, etc.), and fleet supply (twice as well, then four times, etc.).

Keep in mind that there can be multiple flagships, perhaps one for one fleet and another for another fleet.

I think it could also just be a super-beefed-up capital ship (a sixth class).

Think Star Wars, the Empire had multiple flagships for different fleets.

I thinks a great idea that there should be 2 flag ships per race. There should be a new special factory to build them, these things should be huge and with beafy guns a abitlities. If u guys have played Eve online then you will no what i mean bye huge. I heard theres going to be an expansions pack for sins and it would be great to see some kind of huge ship in that, there should be more capital ships to.

i really like the idea of a mother ship too, it would add a new strategy to gameplay. i also like the idea of what PR-0927 said about not having a limit but making it very difficult to get more than one. but i wouldnt want it to be unstopable because then its just a race to see who can get one first. i think a cool feature to add would be boarding. you may think this has nothing to do with the mother ship but to me it makes sense. say you dont want to spend all your resources on one ship, so you wait for your enemy to buy one. then you send your ships up and try to take the ship, this way you dont have to destroy somthing very valuable. now you would probly have to add some new feature to the tech tree, like how well you train the men on board your ships, maybe it would make the the ships do more damage and move faster, that way you could get close enough to board without getting destroyed right away. then you could send your men onto the mother ship and try to capture it. or maybe put them on a sabatage mission, take out the engine room or the guys running it, that way it would be immobilized for the duration of the battle. this could be used on any ship not just the mother ship. but its not based on prabability, its based on how well your men are trained and how many you choose to go on the mission. i also think you should be able to board with several ships at a time otherwise it would be immpossible to take the mother ship. but somewhat of a risk is involved when you board their ship that means that they can take your ship if your men arnt well trained, that way its more important to make you sure you use the right amount of men when you board.

I just like the idea of more ships and types of ships because its just great fun messing around with them. If your playing a really large map online or offline you research everything on your research tree and then thats it and it gets a bit boring and a flag or mother ship would add things to the tree like abilities and new weapons and factory to build it.

While I don't oppose the idea of a superbattleship in the game, I think that the basic concept of a "mothership" being the core of a fleet of smaller vessels is what the designers had in mind with the capital ship. Of course, players go and bunch up their capitals... just as they would do with their motherships, if available.

Thats a good point but the capital ships are to small really to lead a fleet of smaller ships and you want to build as many capital ships as u can so maybe these new mother ships should just have a limet of just 1 or 2 and they should be huge or something to distiquish them from the smaller ships.

I find that in games with "heroes" or super weapons they end up spending most of their time drawing enemy fire. Consider a mothership that not only has super-weapons but also or instead is able to withstand considerable damage before being destroyed. Also consider the motherships being able to repair all of her damaged ships in a given gravity well once every three to five minutes of game play. Another option is motherships can teleport ships from another gravity well to assist her. A mothership may also increase the training level of all or some capitol ships in the gravity well as long as she is in the same gravity well. They could also cause a lower level planet or asteroid to automatically change allegance to that race. There are many options to just super armor and weapons. Use your imagination and see what you can come up with.

I think capital ships are epic enough, to be honest.

You can't keep adding bigger ships to a game, or you just end up with a fleet of absolutely giant ships. The point of capital ships is for them to function as the core of the fleet, hence the "flagship" title on your first one. I personally think they should buff capital ships slightly, and lower the amount available (definitely, 16 is too many), but we do *not* need more big ships. To me, a Kol leading a fleet of LRM frigates and heavy cruisers seems pretty epic.

I see what you mean. but that why there should be a limet to the amount of flagships u can build thus focusing it as a flagship and not just something u can build over and over again.
