Stuck in download loop gc2.sdc

Hi!

The "Sticky: Getting the Game downloaded" Thread seems to be broken? ill post here.

Yesterday i decided to redownload the complete game with all fixes and addons and deinstalled it. I started the download, and its downloading but keeps downloading gc2.sdc regardless how often it reached 100%. Again and again and again. A real bandwidth killer.

How can i stop that?
Things ive tried so far:
- Reinstalling stardock central with an recent version from the stardock page.
- Deleting any "stardock" folders on my harddisk before reinstalling (install location, Own Files)
- Tools Settings Internet Refresh XML Data

It doesnt make a difference. Keeps looping. Any ideas? I wanted to play gc2 this weekend, but it seems im lost.

Hmmm.... uninstall SDC and give Impulse a try.

I just had to reinstall all my games and apps yesterday (had a nasty crash and got to set everything back to factory settings), and it worked like a charm - much better (and faster) than SDC ever was.

@sanchonino
yeah, i gave impulse a try and it worked. maybe sdc isnt supported anymore ;-)

what i asked myself when using impulse is:

What is activate.exe? I always thought (and in fact that was what made me buy galciv 2 in the first place) galciv 2 doesnt have a copyprotection? what if this online activation fail one time in the future or i dont have an internet connection: can i install and play my archived galciv 2?

"no cds, no hassles, no nonsense" ?!

sins installed without hassle, gc2.sdc is in a loop. i can't run impulse, does not work in wine + *nix.

EDIT: i installed gc2 via cd. patching the game works.

Yes. If the archive file is made with Impulse, you'll be able to install from the archive file and boot it up without a connection. So just burn your archive on a disc with the Impulse installer and you'll be ready-setty-spaghetti.

gotta love stardock! :CONGRAT: i hate the idea that my purchased game might stop functioning some time. let it be stardock switches off their servers in 15 years, stardock doesnt exist anymore or i dont have an internet connection anymore because i moved into the woods. lol.

I'm having the same problems as well. It is stuck in a loop. I went to the folder where it downloads the sdc to and found out its getting to about 300mb and then deleting the file and redownloading.

Impulse works with Galactic Civ 2 but not Dark Avatar. It just installs it and the game actually installs to a folder called %parentGalCiv2regpath% in Stardock Games.

Note I set impulse to install in the partition I have setup for games at E:\Games

That's definitely a bug--please contact support@stardock.com, they can pass this on, and/or help with the SDC issue as well.
