What does the Flagship title do? Is it only cosmetic?

I've noticed early game my highest level cap is always my flagship, but I can't tell what this does for it?

I've also noticed that the instant I have two level 10 capitals the flagship title seems to go away.

Right now I'm engrossed in a huge map game that started as a 10 faction 1 star single player game. Has gone from 4v3v3 to 2v3v1, many many hours played. Anyways, 8/16 of my caps are level 10, how do I get the flagship title back? I kind of like the rp aspect of the game, the flagship is *my* ship!

It used to be that your first capital ship, in addition to being free, also started at level 3. But as that's no longer the case, the flagship title is just cosmetic.

Do you think you'll ever bring the level 3 element back? Or were there balancing issues in doing so?

No, it was dropped because (particularly in small games), the first player to lose his flagship was at a major disadvantage, often just quitting at that point.

do you realy think having evacuators or radiance battleships start at level 3 is a good idea? or motherships (like getting massive cost reduction when colonizing...)?

the flagship is the regrouping location for all ships in the current fleet. If you have your flagship in a different system, the rest will follow or they will all go to the same location in the gravity well. They don't have to be the strongest ship. If you make it a carrier, than most of your ships will stay out of range till to tell them to attack, or the auto attack is initiated.
