Serious Lag?

I keep getting lag issues as the game progresses... at first everything is running smoothly, but after about two hours the fram rate slows down, and at four it's almost unbearble to watch. I more than meet the system requirments (I have 3gig ram, a NVIDIA 8800 GT graphics card, and a quad processor), so why is this happening? Is there any way to fix it?

I updated to v1.05, but that didn't help.

1. Everything is running smoothly when there are hardly any ships or econ updates to process.....so that's normal

2. After two hours there are probably hundreds of ships to take care of and hundreds of econ updates to prcocess so there will be a noticable slowdown.....also normal


What is your pagefile set to? I've personally tested SINS with many hardware/software and OS configs and have found that keeping one's pagefile size set to at least 2.5 X the amount of installed RAM helps things.

Please realize that this game IS capable of bringing even the biggest, baddest rigs to their knees due to the size of games one can concievably have.

Also, SINS runs completely on one core. The only thing it uses another core for is texture caching, after that it's all on one core.

Umm... I'm mildly computer illiterate, so what is pagefile?

Hard Drive space that the OS uses the simulate RAM. I've been using the 2.5 X installed RAM "rule-of-thumb" for years now, and my systems are always running smoothly (just ask my kids...hehe) :)


Control Panel >> System >> Advanced >> Performance (Settings) >> Advanced >> Virtual Memory

And by "2.5 X", do you mean 2.5 times your installed ram? Like, I would use 7.5?
