missing stuff

I just thought I might write this to gather some info on the recent problems with my favorite app. DesktopX. I have been hearing about various problems with DX lately. Some are having trouble with disappearing themes, some with just parts missing, etc. Richard Mohler mentioned whether DX is even worth the trouble. I updated DX not too long ago and it was missing a lot of plugins. I have a tester for my themes, Wizard1956, and he had problems with the recycle bin not even showing up in the themes.Clocks too. I sent him a few plugins, voila, fixed. So, just for the sake of info, anyone having DesktopX problems, please post here. Most problems seem to be Vista related, I think.  :d

Anybody else having problems launching DX builder mode from the welcome(it crashes DX ) or switching modes with the systray icon. It's almost impossible and also crashes DX. Builder mode works as a start-up program or if I r-click DX in the start menu and run as admin.UAC on or off.I'm new to this but don't think that is normalWWW LinkReference this thread for more info. Also on startup today,5 of my themes were gone,I rebooted and started DX again and they came back.Vista,of curse. ;p

You may want to mention if you have SP1 installed or not.

Installed 3/19.ODNT installed 4/23.I haven't used DX long enough to give a decent report on it.As long as I can get it running,I'm willing to work with it and note anything weird.Such as:Parts of themes that vanish when moving on the desktop, whole themes disappearing and themes lists (od/dx/themes vs list in config dx/load desktop) that don't match. It's fun stuff! No,really. :LOL:Just changing WindowBlinds was getting boring.DX makes me think. And I've got good teachers. ;)

This morning I attempted to launch builder mode directly. No good. It's says"This application failed to start because DirectGUI.dll was not found.Re-installing the application may fix this problem."It's been installed twice already.(but I will go for 3,if I have to) Why does DesktopX have parts missing that keep it from functioning properly? :p {Edit} It also doesn't overwrite a theme if you save it,unless you "save as",to desktop, docs etc., then delete the original and place it in the themes file.I need one of these.WWW Link

Does anyone know where I can obtain this?DirectGUI.dll It would save me lots of time when testing.

I haven't had your problem in a long time.I would repost under stardock support as there may be a problem in your registry. It's easy to fix It's just I'll be danged if I can remember what the fix is. But I do know they helped me.

Update:OD Launchpad has some sort of bug concerning DX.Launching DX from anywhere else works fine, both modes. With the new Impulse dock to launch from, which also works great,it's a non-issue.
It does fudge a save once in a while, and I have to redo the changes, but I'm learning this stuff, so it could be me..

Thanks,Jingles,I do have a ticket in,but as long as DX is working,I gave it a low priority. Now with the dock,I could close that ticket.I don't need the launchpad and they have bigger fish to fry right now. ;)

I have found the following in>c:program files\stardock\objectdesktop\desktopX
cmcs21.dll
DirectGUI.dll(copied to SDPlugins, builder mode launches from its shortcut now) :D
dx0.dll
IconX.dll
DXResources.dll
ODZip.dll
Resources.dll
SDCtrls.dll
They are not installed in the SDPlugins folder, but they were provided for some reason.Could someone familiar with DX tell me if I need to copy any more of these dll's into SDPlugins?Could this be why DX builder mode crashes from the ODNT Launchpad?32bit Vista,DX v.3.50.059-TIA

You should be able to copy them all to the DX plugins folder with no ill effects.
