New to game - Campaign Issues

Greets all, i've played some skermish games and been able to hold my own against the PC so i thaught I had try the Campaign. I've been able to take the other guys planets, but this Dread Lord kicks my ass! Am I doing something wrong? The DR is tougher than anything ive seen so far.

For all those who want to know, massing ships with high level logistics is the way. I used a number of destroyers and cruisers to get the job done.
