A few noob questions

I picked up the game last Saturday and have been loving it so far.  However, I'm still learning and I have a few questions that aren't addressed well in the manual (most of these are from a TEC perspective since it's the only race I've played extensively so far):

1.  Do the number Broadcast Centres affect the amount of culture you produce?  For example, in one game I played, I had colonized several planets and I placed Broadcast Centers on only the outher planets of my domain.  It didn't seem necessary to place them on the inner planets.

2.  How is your Cultural Influence calculated and how can you increase it?

3.  I have the same question as #1 above but for Orbital Refineries: does having more of them improve the rate at which they extract metal / crystal?

4.  One of the research topics is Long Range Jumps, which says it allows you to jump to other star systems.  Is this a useful research topic in single-star systems?

I think that's all for now, but I may have more questions later as I play...

1. Culture increase friendly allegiances and lower the opponement ones until they get to 0 (They become neutral). Building more Broadcast Centres will enchance the rate of spreading and its power.

3. Building more rafinery do not improve the rate of extraction.

4. Long range jump is useless in single star maps. Wormhole navigation is useless when their no wormhole

They really should add something small to the research of wormhole and long range jumps. I hate useless technologies.

Some corrections to Harvatos' answers.
Building more Broadcast Centres will enchance the rate of spreading and its power.
End of quote
I believe it improves the spread rate (and the ability to spread into systems where capital ships are present), but culture is an "all-or-nothing" switch with respect to power. Either you get the bonuses and allegiance change caused by your culture being present or you don't. You don't double-up on, say, the Advent shield mitigation bonus whether you have two or twenty broadcast centres close.

You can increase culture bonuses by researching the spread rate - each improves that race's specific bonus a bit. This has been posted several times in other threads about culture. Have a look around the Sins and Strategy forums for more info.

Having more orbital refineries DOES improve the rate of extraction, but only up to a ceiling. If you look at the infocard for any extractor, you'll see it has a number of refineries that it can support (before you build refineries, it'll be "0 of 3 refineries" for asteroids that are next to a planet, and "0 of 4 refineries" if in an empty gravwell). That's the maximum number of refineries that'll get a bonus to resource harvesting from that specific asteroid in an adjacent gravwell. So, for example, if you have four refineries in adjacent gravwells to a planet with three crystal asteroids, only three of the refineries will increase your overall harvest rate from those asteroids by sending refinery ships to them.

Thanks for the info everyone. I've got a couple other questions:

Regarding Artifacts, how often do you find them? Are they more frequent in larger maps than smaller ones, or is it only specific maps that have them? And is their location random or always on the same planet?

My other question is about the AI. What's the difference between the different types of AI (Economist, Aggressor, etc)?

Thanks again!

The default rate of finding artifact by exploring an planet is 15% in Galaxy Forge. This can be change. I dont known if all pre-build maps have the defaults rate or if some have differents ones. I going to open some of those maps in Galaxy Forge to see. I came with an answer soon!

The different type of AI is it primary concern. Economist will build more space port, refinery and will do anything to get more credits/ressources. Aggressor will focus on attack. Fortifier will build more defence such cannons, hangars, etc.

Wait few minute for me and I check up the maps. Im curious too.

I looked an dozen of maps and here my conclusion: all maps have the defaults rate of artifacts (15%) and of planetary bonus (40%). Hope its enlight you!

I forget researchist! An AI with this type will focus on upgrading and having high tiers units.

Thanks again for the info. Got a couple more questions here:

1. Will building more Shield Generators increase the amount of shielding my planets receive, or is it useless beyond the first generator?

2. I noticed that some of my colonies have their allegiance peaked at rather low values like 65%, possibly due to their distance from the homeworld. Is there any way of increasing their maximum allegiance without moving the capital?

2. The allegiance is based on how many phase jumps away a planet is from your capital, which is stated in a box at the bottom of the UI. You can increase your planets' allegiance by spreading your culture to the planet. However, this only helps to a certain degree.

2. Culture will increase the allegiance by 10% if maxed and the default allegiance will decrease by 10% for every jump from your capitol. Which means that planets one jump from your home world can be increased to 100%, two jumps away max out at 90% and so on.

Advent has a tech in the harmony tree (its at the very end, 9 structures needed) that increase max allegiance by another 10% so planets 2 jumps from your homeworld will get 100%.

Did this make sense?
