Culture Questions

It's not in the Manual

I recently purchased Sins of a Solar Empire, and two of my friends have it also.  One plays TEC and the other Vasari, so I thought I'd play the Advent in to round it out.  A good portion of the Harmony Tech Tree for the Advent is devoted to faster culture spread, so naturally I went to look up Culture in the Game Manual so that I could take advantage of this fact.  I was suprised to see that details on culture are absent from the manual save for a small blurb listed under the "Broadcast Center" entry.  I really want all the details on Culture that I can find. Is there some resource I can read to find out all the details?

Specific Questions

  1. Will building more than one "Broadcast Center" (Temple of Communion for me) at a particular planet increase the rate of culture spread from that planet or is one simply enough?
  2. What are the effects of Culture?  The Manual's brief Blurb mentions a planet revolting.  Is that its only effect on enemy Planets?  At what culture level will they revolt?
  3. What is Culture Strength dependent on?  Is it merely research upgrades or is there some activity that I can actively do to increase my own culture strength?

Thanks for taking the Time to read and respond.  Any details you have on culture will be greatly appreciated.

1. Yes. Each adds to the rate of culture spread.

2. Culture reduces a planet's allegiance to its governing empire. When the culture reaches zero (you'll receive a verbal warning that it's dropping first), the planet becomes independent and can be colonized. Culture also improves the shield mitigation for Advent units that fight within their own culture-spread areas, TEC regenerate antimatter faster when in culture, and Vasari receive a boost to their weapon power.

3. Culture strength is a 1-0 switch. Either you're in it, or you're not. If you are in it, the upgrades mentioned above apply.

To increase your own culture SPREAD, build more culture buildings at the edges of your empire. Note that culture spread is cut in half every time it passes through a gravity well.

To increase your culture POWER, upgrade your spread rate and you'll increase the bonuses described above.

To decrease enemy SPREAD, capital ships in a gravity well have a culture defense capability that improves as they level up. If you have a planet in danger of being taken over by enemy culture, capital ships can help (until you can build a media centre there).

There is nothing you can do to decrease enemy culture POWER.

How exactly does culture affect ship's and to what extent does it do that? Is it based on the "Allegiance" value of the planet in the gravity well where you are fighting?

I'd like to be able to quantify the effects.

Thanks so much for your response theRetroboy.

Are the shield mitigation, antimatter recharge, and increased damage things that must be researched to have an effect? Where can I see the current bonuses in game does it show on an infocard anywhere?

Also, will my culutre affect units of players that I am allied with, or teammates, or both?

Centurion - allegiance ceiling value goes up 10%. So your homeworld maxes out at 110% allegiance, and you gain allegiance slowly up to that maximum if you are in a gravity well that is being influenced by your own culture. Your culture changes your allegiance, but your allegiance doesn't change your culture.

Cripple (and Centurion) - Check the research trees for the three races to find out. The research items that increase culture spread rate also have the stated "secondary effect". For Advent, for example, the first research gives 5% culture spread rate, but gives a bonus increase of +1% mitigation bonus to all ships in culture. The next gives 10% spread and +2% mitigation, and so on. That's actually pretty powerful.

Not sure about culture bonuses to allies or teams. I have a hunch the infocard doesn't list it separately - you just get the bonus lumped in with the other statistics if you're in the culture. But you could pause the game and compare two identical ships where one is in your culture area and another is not to see what the differences are.

Hi, there are threads with some good information about culture

here: WWW Link

and here: WWW Link

It's unfortunate that the forum search stinks and that there's no consolidated WIKI to post this stuff, otherwise you would've been able to find all this information yourself.

Asking again, this stuff should probably be posted on a WIKI somewhere. Can someone recommend a good one?
