How does it calculate scores

Dark Avatar

I'm fairly confused on something.

I am on Normal or Tough (Whatever the highest level was that doesn't allow AI cheats), Gigantic map, toggled off optional wins, I have more planets, resources and technology than anyone else in space, Only my Military is behind the curve really (I have a very few Large ships, but they've walked over anyone that attacked, typically without taking damage.) and sometimes I save the game, then "Retire" just to see how I'm scoring.

I'm scoring at the bottom of the game? Literally last place! I'm kinda vaguely hoping there's a massive retirement penalty, but if there isn't, any theories on what I'm doing wrong? The timeline basically shows me shooting well above everyone else except on Military (Where the Drath supposedly outgun me by a fair amount, though I'm not sure they would win in a fight given the tech differences).

Thanks - Jonnan

your right. there is a large retirement penalty. If you add up your scores from each of the different sections on the endgame screen you'll get pretty close to what your real score would be if you one that turn.

Plus military scores are calculated oddly. i belive the game takes total attack points of all yuor ships plus total defense pionts plus 1/10 hull points to get the score. so even if your ships are ten times better than the enimes, he probably has larger numbers and that counts for more

Okay - so I'm not doing as badly as all that. I was pretty sure it had to be a retirement penalty or something similar - my individual scores were even or much higher than the AI's, then my total score was in the basement - {G}.

Oh yea. If you retire it can take a 100K game down to less than 10K.

Anybody would care revealing the exact mathematical formulas involved? Cuz, i'd be really curious to find out what it takes to (i dunno) maybe perform a bit better in any kind of specific situations.

As long as someone has these facts cleared up, s/he can actually make a worthy presence in the Metaverse & play while trusting a relatively standard (or even, solidly predictable) scale of evaluations.

These calculations are specially important now that we have the TA-Tournaments asset, me-think.

I'm still not sure I understand the Economic formula's - the system acknowledges that I have vastly more income than the AI races, but still scores me lower than any of them in the stats screens. I suspect it's because it's mostly Tourism income though - I got influence up quit early in the game (Three mines) and it's been a losing battle for the AI's ever since on that score, I'm at like 20,000,000 votes on the Galactic Senate screen versus something like 1,000,000 total for everyone else.

I am going to get *so* crushed next game when I don't get as lucky as I was on this one - {G}. That's gonna suck so bad!

This game should do end-game scoring like Nethack, where every single addition to your score is broken down for you in incredible detail. The figuring being, the game's over, why not show what all the behind the scenes stuff was now?
