Community of Man

A Finger on the Pulse

After reading Zoomba's wonderful article asking for our backing for our members in China, I just had to expand the topic. My main reason for this is the ridiculously out of place comment made by one member. I am not alone in thinking that politics or religion have no place in these types of topics. We are talking about people. People who love their families, want better lives for their children or just want enough to eat today.

I would like to ask the members of this community to take pause and think about not only those in China, but the unfortunate INNOCENT souls in Myanmar, Darfur (Sudan), Iraq, Afghanistan and many other area of our world. These are victims of nature or governments or fanaticism, but whatever the cause they are human beings and deserve our compassion. There will always be disasters, there will always be those who wish to impose their will on others, there will always be those who wish to profit from misery. It is up to each individual to make his/her voice heard against these abuses.

Thank you for the moment you take to read this article and please post your comments.

I read words as you have written angus and usually find it hard to respond. Not because I don't understand them or don't agree, just don't know how to add to them.

History tells us all we need to know yet we never seem as individuals or societies to want to stop and listen and learn The governments of the world may think they represent the people, but they don't. It's the people that represent themselves.

When ever tragedy strikes be it man made or nature, it's not the governments that need our help, it's the people. It's not really all the difficult or hard to understand now is it?

Thanks for replying Philly. I guess I may not have expressed myself in a way that was conducive to discussions. I mainly wanted to express my own anguish over the plight of others. My wife and I have often discussed how horrific it could become in even the most seemingly stable countries during or after a political upheaval, war or mega-disaster. So I mainly wanted to hear others feelings on these matters.
