Some minor bugs - TA

My first game in TA is coming to a close (immense, so it takes a while).

anyhow, noticed the following things, a couple of which are minor bugs, and the rest of which are probably not bugs but just me not understanding something:

1) when I put scouts on auto-explore, they group together and all go explore the same place.  on an immense map when I want to see what's out there, having half a dozen scouts scouting only in one direction in a swarm doesn't seem right.  hehe  Even when they start off in different areas, they go and join the swarm when put on auto-explore.

2) Had one CTD, had been playing for many hours though, and have stuff open in the background that I've been alt-tabbing to, so its probably just me having too much open or a conflict w/one of the other programs or whatever.  Not a big deal, took many hours before it happened.  I'm not too worried about it at all, but might as well mention it for completeness sake.

3) The manual appears to be the Dark Avatar manual even though its named the TA manual, and even has a TA pic on the first page.

4) manual says (p. 34) that you suffer a permanent diplo penalty for declaring war on someone you have a econ/research treaty with.  Since the treaties are one way, giving you only 1 of each to give out, while at the same time you can take several of each w/out reciprocating ->  its unclear if the penalty applies only when its one of the two you have to give out, or if it applies even if you are merely the recipient.

5) This is probably me just not understanding something rather than a bug, but after researching alliances, there doesn't appear to be any alliance option in the trade screen (perhaps I have to raise my friendliness level w/the target first?).  Would be nice if it would still appear, but be greyed out w/an infotip or whatever if that's the case.

6) I'm playing the yor w/the default color scheme and symbol.  Random opponents.  I come across the dark yor -> same color scheme and symbol, and right next to me.  Got a little confusing, visually.  Until i marginalized them like the pretenders they are.

7) Opening the planet list simply opens the list then I can jump to a planet or not as I choose adn when I choose, keeping the camera in its current location if I wish.  When I open it defaulting to the ship list, however, it auto-selects a ship and moves the camera to that position, unselecting whatever I had selecting and losing my place on the map.  (doesn't sound like a big deal, but on an immense map it can take a minute to find where I was again).

thanks for the info!

Indeed, auto-exploring (1) doesn't really seem to work. All the scouts will indeed cover the exact same spaces. Guess this one will be resolved soon (I hope).

Curious question: Did you enable ascension victory, and if yes, how was a (relatively) quick ascension victory prevented?

Both parties need to have the Alliances tech (so trade it to them if they don't have it yet), and your relation have to be "close" or better. I agree that more in-game information about this issue would be nice.

Usually not a huge problem, because the Dark Yor are a minor race, meaning they don't expand. I actually never noticed that they have the same icon and color as the Yor, although both usually appear in my games. Still it would be nice if they had their own logo and color.

No, I did not enable ascension victory. Avoided too early ascension that way.

Avoided too early tech victory as well. Wouldn't have really been an issue anyways, however, as I had the best research goin' according to the charts, and won before anyone could have gotten to an ascension victory anyhow. Disabling tech trading probably helped w/that, everyone moved up the ladder more slowly as a result, you only got what you researched. Tech speed was set to 'very slow', also. Disabled tech stealing even. Furthermore, I just played in normal, probably made it easier. (next game I'll bump it up to intelligent, but that was my first and considered it a learning experience). Having habitable planets only be occasional helped too, you have basically a shorter expansion period, but w/the immense map tech speed of 'very slow' still, so events get kickin' into gear sooner between the races, before too much of the tech tree has already been uncovered.

these were my settings, I'll probably use the same in the next game, but at the intelligent difficulty level:

Ah, w/out tech trading they just must never have gotten the tech. I probably won't waste time researching alliances then unless I know my intended alliance partner already has it. Good to know, will save me time. =>

Have you had a look at the ship/auto camera settings in config? Dont know if that will help in your scenario.

Good point. If they coloured Black the current purple area inside the inner triangle of the logo, that would crack that one, simple to do.

SmegInThePants: seeing the picture of the diplomatic relations you posted, I've noticed that there aren't any Dark Yor mentioned there. The Dark Yor also shouldn't ever appear on this screen since they are a minor race.

What I see on this screen is two instances of the Yor. Since these are two instances of the same race, it's logical that they use the same logo and color.

I have no idea why you have two Yor in your game. Do you use mods or custom races? Are there any events that could have caused this?

Addendum: Also, are people *sure* that the Dark Yor use the same logo as the Yor? Don't they use RaceLogo18.png, while the Yor use RaceLogo05.png? (Check the Gfx/Race/ directory in your GalCiv 2 folder, which contains the race logos)

Holy crap, I just realized I was more confused than I had ever thought. Just went back to an old save game to see if they were still alive and I do have one old enough. Guess what? There was both another Yor, *and* the Dark Yor, all to confuse my poor Yor self. Damn replicating machines! hehe

The dark yor *did* have a different symbol at least, I thought they were the same race being referred to in different ways at different times. (for instance, in the screeny I posted above I'm referred to as the Yor, and though I didn't have a custom symbol or color, I did have a custom name, but that screen didn't use it, so I figured the same was happening to the dark yor).

So to summarize, the problem isn't w/the dark yor at all. Its when another major race of the same type is present.

Hi! Everytime when I build a starbase the confirmation dialog appears multiple times. "Do you want to build the starbase here?" YES/NO appears 2-3 times and I click yes everytime.
