Cursor FX

What a worthless piece of crap - And some *gigglz* to boot

Hmm... I notice there aren't any new smilies for the forums. Seems like a pretty easy thing to add-since they were custom made for this site.

That's not why I'm posting though.

Having installed Vista Ultimate tonight (got it for FREE - by the way), I was very impressed with the improvements that Microsoft has made. I have found my computer to be as fast as it is with XP - which I have set up to be able to access via dual-boot.

I was very UNIMPRESSED with CursorFX, which I installed after all available updates for my computer. It installed alright, and applied the chosen cursor. The cursor was HUGE, so I decided to revert to the standard Windows cursor.

NOPE! Couldn't do it with Stardocks program.  So I went into the settings area of the control panel and manually changed the cursor back. That lasted for about a minute, or two - back to the HUGE cursor that was being applied by CursorFX.

Now I have uninstalled CursorFX, and I find myself shaking my head. How in Hell can Stardock offer up such a program, when it doesn't work properly? I don't know. We are into Vista SP1 now, and Stardock STILL doesn't have this program working right. Oh well. It's free...so I shouldn't complain. Read the post by Frogboy...I got it. (Something about bitching about free cocktails...if I remember right).

I had a look at Tweak Vista. That was a big "ho-hum". Nothing that I wanted, everything I didn't.

I haven't tried anything else yet. I'm afraid too. Stardock seems to have an attitude that they can sell gas @ twice the price, while spiking it with salty water. I feel sorry for the people that don't know how to fix what Stardock is screwing up.

Don't get me wrong. I L-O-V-E the new "Impulse" for XP. I do. But CursorFX is not good. It is not a quality program, and I won't be recommending it to my mother.

Now the giggles. Every girl needs a few.

After I installed this CursorFX program I used the link to find more cursors. I came here, as I expected. I had a look at a few pointers (no pun intended), and went on to sort my results by rating.

I could tell you my opinons about the results I saw. I could tell you my opinions about the greed I've witnessed here. I could tell you about the horrible way people have been treated here on WC for at least the last 6-8 months. I could tell you a lot of things...but it would (and will), result in a bunch of people doing what they do best. Jafo will come up with some sarcastic jab and end it with a  ;) - Spock will come up with something he feels is stellar (in intellectual terms), to what I have said; likely ending it with a  ;p  -Zubaz will step up to the plate, trying to minimize the damage that Stardock & WC do to themselves. Of course you will have the ass kisser who will make some statement that shows just how much they are willing to bend over for a good skin, and then the ongoing laughter &  :CONGRAT:'s.

Sort CursorFX skins by "Rating", then look at the dates of skin submission. *gigglz*

All the while Stardock charges more, offers less, and what they offer isn't fit to install (on Vista). Oh, AND criticizes the people who dare to criticize.  Is it any wonder why people aren't submitting many skins, even when the main skinning program has gotten so much easier to use? I don't think so. I've used the new program. I like it. I won't offer anything I've done though. Not here, not on DA, not on SA, etc. etc. - I'm not going to offer anything that helps Stardock make money. Why? They aren't doing anything for me.

I'll pay for the program, and download what I can. But I'm not going to feed the giant any more than that. Stardock is looking out for Stardock. There is nothing wrong with that, but they didn't get here by doing this and they know it.

By the way - MyColors? I'm glad you have corporate backing on this program, but since you said it will be distributed with new pc's, doesn't that make it the same "bundled" software that Frogboy has bitched about? I *seem* to remember him saying something like "stop it. just stop." (referring to bundling software with new computers).

CursorFX is a terrible program. You are doing grave damage to what little good will you have towards your company. If you don't like me saying it publicly, I'm sorry. Unfortunately, I've seen the way you handle your e-mails-from the comments on your forums. They go ignored. Then they get ridiculed when someone makes the issue public.

Thanks for lending me an ear. Please share my gigglz and have a look at the CursorFX offerings. Make sure you sort them by "rating" and look at the date submitted.

As you should know all too well Kitty... everyone is entitled to THEIR opinion.

Good Post UnhappyCamper, I certainly agree with some of your comments, though I can't offer an opinion as to the useability of CursorFX.... it's another program that isn't compatible with Vista x64.

Peter

Let me ask a stupid question " please tell me why you are using Vista 64bit?"

You come to the wrong place for help if you want to bash these people here.
Actually you left one out - me!
I'd like to know where you got Vista for free at? And what else did you not buy??
May explain completely why you are having problems with the programs.

SGT :(

So are you saying that the "Windows Default" cursors (which are the top of the list in CursorFX) would not apply?

/quote Let me ask a stupid question " please tell me why you are using Vista 64bit?" /unquote

I'll answer that one for you:

a. I have a 64bit Processor
b. I use 3DSMax 64bit, Maxwell Render, Vue Infinite & Maya 64bit (and if you don't know why I use the 64bit version of these programs you obviously haven't attempted any serious 3D Rendering or you have a whole heap of spare time on your hands to be using the 32bit equivalents).
c. Lastly, because it's a damn sight better than 32bit XP or Vista

btw, I didn't get my Vista for free, the original Poster did, but that doesn't explain why core programs for Object Desktop are stated as being Vista 64bit supported when they clearly are not, (i.e. MyColors, IconPackager hasn't seen an update in about 12 months, but having said that WB, OD+ and DesktopX all work wonderfully for me).

I'll closr by restating what I said in my original post, I agree with SOME of the original comments made by the Topic Starter and everyone is entitled to THEIR opinion.

I was under the impression that a whole new version of Mycolors was just released and I know for a fact Iconpackager has been updated multiple times in the last 2 months (last was April 12) I'm not sure that Vx64 problems have all been solved but I'd imagine they won't have a new "Release" version until they have it working correctly.

I agree, it's not the content that starts shit-storms...it's the tone :)

You're right about the IP updates Lantec, but they address x32 issues, Vx64 users are still using v3.00 (released in the IP v3.20 release).

As of 30secs ago the last release of MyColors is still dated 8/4/2008 in Impulse, (which didn't work for me).

And lastly, agreed also... I just wouldn't have phrased it the same way as UnhappyCamper.

Finhbar - Um, 8/4/2008 is the future. So something isn't right there. MyColors TM JUST came out in the last few months, and is getting updates on a consistent basis. It is not 64 bit ready yet, but rest assured we are working on it so that it is 64 bit compatible. There are some MyColors themes that haven't been updated, since there isn't a need to since it works with the MyColors that we currently have out.

Can you let me know where you see that date, if it's the MyColors TM, or an actual Theme? Thanks!

Edit:  I'm told that you may actually be reading 8/4/2008 as April 8, 2008.  If so, then you're not seeing the future, either way, less than a year.

I volunteer to be the poster who bends over... in your words not mine.
Yep I love a good skin and you are right this is the best place to get them.

I feel bad for you that you are so unhappy( apparently both in life judging by your nick, and with stardock products)

I noticed you mentioned the size of cursorfx cursor. In the plus version, you have a field where you can adjust the size of your cursor larger or smaller. I don't know if the feature is available in the free version.

Attacking staff is definitely the way to go if you are trying to get help with the product, it'll warm them to you and create a warm fuzzy atmosphere that will ensure total cooperation and ensure success in fixing the problems you speak of. Continue in that manner.

as for 64bit issues, it's well documented here in the forums, which you obviously read because you have posted here. knowing that any issues are being worked with, I'm sure you are aware that your complaints are taking the people who are fixing the issues away from working on them. that is very productive of you.

I hope all your issues with the products are resolved, but if they aren't and you choose to go elsewhere, we will miss your wit and sarcasm (well probably not,..) but wish you well in all your endeavors beyond wc and stardock.

there, have I succeeded in fitting into your little diatribe? the official bender overer, wulfn1

unhappycamper88, I'm using and love CFX (free) and will get the paid version someday. This, in spite of the fact the control panel has locked up twice after installing older cursors and had to be uninstalled and re-installed. Perhaps that is what happened in your case as well.Someone should look into this, but it's wrong to condemn CFX,Stardock and the community at large because of it. Support, One request: Please,Please update the uninstaller,it leaves too much behind to make a clean re-install, I had to use Revo to clean up. Sorry, I won't kiss your butt if you do, but it would be nice. P.S. I've been an R.V. Tech since 1981 and find that "unhappy campers" never get a chance to enjoy the scenery or the company of fellow campers.'Tis a real pity .Winky For President!
