Pirates are dead...

...(says the pirate panel) but the AI still gives money to them.

I checked the system and actually found a pirate base still alive.

Is this a bug or i'm missing something here?

Thanks, Gerry

If your map is large enough, there's a second pirate base. Are you playing on a more-than-one-star map?

Couldn't edit the above post for some reason. Friggin' forums!

Just reread your post and realized my answer doesn't apply. Sounds like a bug to me.

Ermm... Pirate screen shows pirates AND bounties, which are two different things, though related to each other. You can place bounties to other players. When there is a bounty on someone you should see amount of bounty given for destroying structures/ships when you point your mouse over them (bottom of the infocard). When you have destroyed the bountys worth of ships/structures you get the "all bounties have been given" or something like that. Even if you have pirates disabled/dead you can place bounties to other empires in hope encouraging others to attack them. Pirates always go after the player with most bounty on their head. Clear as a liverpie.

Hope this cleared the mess.  :)

No :)

If the screen says that the pirates are dead, why there is another pirate base on the map?

If you have pirates turned off, you will stil get pirate bases, you just wont get any raids.

If you had them on and it shows them as dead but there is still a base, i dont know :( I had this with a Huge map i was playing, killed 3AI and only one showed up as dead on the diplomacy screen.
Might be a bug.

If you're fighting Advent, remember that they have a tech that puts bounty on your head automatically when you kill their tradeships. This will happen whether pirates are dead or not.

Did you start with pirates set to inactive?

If you start with them active, and they have more than one base, they should not show as defeated (broken glass) until all bases are destroyed.

If you start with them inactive, they show as defeated and don't raid, but they do still have bases. Their bases are part of the map itself, and can't be added/taken out by toggling their active/inactive status.

in all my games where i turned of the pirates the bases are also allways still alive, the pirates dont go out of their system or anything and ai sometimes puts money on other factions but the pirates dont react to it.

they got the cracked glass in the portrait and the are dead, its just the pirate bases still require a good fight to take over and dont hang abandoned in space.

As far as I am aware, placing money can have nothing to do with pirates...players can make money off slaughtering each otehr too. This may not be a bug at all...

true, but I have had the AI put bounty on my head when pirates were inactive and it was down to 1v1. They get it back i suppose when they attack... still makes little sense.

Active. That's the reason why i think it is a bug: i had the 'broken glass screen' but discovered another pirate base.

Actually, no they don't. You can't ever get your own bounty back, only the bounty that other players put on your foe.

I'm guessing the reason is that just before invading an enemy's space, you could seriously pump up the bounty to lure a different player in to assault them at the same time, but then you could collect it all back yourself before the AI assault could retrieve any.

Active. That's why i think it is a bug. I got the 'broken glass screen' but i disvered another pirates base.

Hmm, interesting. Do they still raid and everything?

in that case at least the broken glass on active pirates is definitly a bug.

Yeah, something sounds buggy. If they raid, it shouldn't be a broken glass screen. If they don't raid (and are set to active), there shouldn't be a pirate base still under their control :P
