Pirates have space dominace, what would you do?

Hi,

My game seems to have run into abit snag in TA...

Terrans are the major faction in my game at the moment, they have swollowed up the drengin and the thalan empire. they have a huge military and have technology i cant possibly get without alot of money in research and espionage, neglecting my own military and social projects, but im content with that for the moment, got plans brewing.

In second place is Myself with a custom race. i recently took the Arcean Emire into my own.

Followed very closely behind me is the Altarian resistance who assisted the terrans in vanquishing the thalan empire, but got the wrong end of the deal with minimal thalan planets to show for it, along with a lower technology rating than me..

Torains are in 4th place, alot smaller than the altarian resitsance, but have have a decent technology and economy rating for their size.

The drath legion have a large territory but dont got the military thanks to the Dread lords equipped with salt and razor blades. this seems to keeping their development very limited

Although the dominon of Korx is getting the worst of the dreadlords, they can bearly maintain any military at all.

i wanted to try out terror stars on this game, so i focused my technology and production into making a few terror starts. Within 40 turns i had a proto-type to see how it works (since i never used it before). i liked it. within another 30 turns i had placed terror starts around all my potential enemies (toran, terran and alterian) core systems to destroy them in one swift blow should i need too.

when i was making my 5th terror star in the terran territory, the alterian and torains went for a joint war effort on the terrans. knowing the terrans would easily wipe the floor with both, consuming another 2 empires resources to use against me, i decide to go for an all or nothing apporach and joined in the war effort with them.

With my first blow to the terrans i destoryed earth and atlast 8 dofferent level 15+ planets along with the minor planets orbiting the same star. less than 3 turns later the terran armada appeared aand started to swarming over the torain and altarian territory. Since these two races lack the military and technology to compete with terran battleships. i quickly purchased an alliance with them and sent my armada in to assist.

It was when we were bearly fighting off the terran fleet that the mega event sending entire fleets of pirate vessels to appear out of no where and attack everyone (each visable pirate fleet had in excess off 111 laser damage along with 50+ defence in ranging areas).

At this point the pirates control space, my armada along with the other coalition fleets are in ruins, or will be in the next 2 turns. the terrans are faring better, but will not be able to stand up to the shear number of the pirates, and eventially will be in the same situation as us.

maybe only the dread lords can put up some kinda resitsnace to the pirates, maybe.

this is where i am in the game at the moment and dont know how to proceed. since none of the other major factions can, or atleast very soon, wont be able to make any ships without the pirates cutting them down quicky. so i wanna ask for advice from you people.

If i am right in thinking so, this could remain this way forever since pirates dont conqeur worlds to end my game.

i was considering reseaching massive ships and beef them up with lots of defence. but this will take time and money which i will be running out of shortly since the pirates are ripping out my trade ships..

anyone got any other suggestions or tips?

((just pointing out im not pissed at this event, if i didnt like this kinda thing i would turned it off. i actually loved it though, actually applauded the game for it and said well done. im sure that who ever can emerge from this kinda situation would end up as the dominate force in the galaxy.))

**NB: Just for note i am on an emense galaxy so i ruled cultural victory out. technology and alliance victory is disabled

Interesting. :)

It sucks that your trade routes are being eaten by pirates. You could design freighters with lots of engines on them to try and outrun them since you didn't mention how fast these pirates are.

Also, have you tried building the privateers galactic achievement? Or did another race get it. It'd prevent them from killing more trade vessels I think.

Either way, you will need to throw yourself into research to acquire ships that can fight these pirates. Hopefully the AI will be dim enough to keep building ships while you race ahead in research.

Good luck either way. :CONGRAT:

You need to redesign your ships with defenses versus their weapons and with weapons against the one defense they don't have and their ships will fold like paper.

As you already know, pirates can't conquor planets. Teching up until you can beat them is a valid strategy.

Alternatively, you could try to clear out a sector of pirates so you make fleets. Its hard to makes fleets when pirates are hunting down any ships you make. Once you have a clear sector, you can then start building up your military there by forming fleets, and use the strength of the fleets to clear more of your sectors.

The Dread Lords, and the pirates can fight each other, or atleast they did in this one game I played in the early DA betas. You may wish to tech up before the Dread Lords clear a path to you...

No it wouldn't. The other civs will eventually tech up to the point where they can destroy those pirate ships.

First, spend your money developing your planets with markets and stuff. It will increase your income so you could maintian your development. Replace factories and labs if you need to.

Now go and beat up those darn pirates.

What I would do is study them find a weakness. They have a high lasers attack build up a good ship laser defense and weapons that they don’t have shielding for.

And, you could always cheat.

Give yourself more abilities and bonuses than the pirates, so they won't be a factor in your galactic domination.

Turn about is fair play, after all.

So pirates wiped out fleets of your enemy? Excellent! What you need now is lots of fast troop transports to take undefended planets of Humans, and you'll win. Just make sure you also have Eyes Of The Universe to avoid unnecesary collisions with those helpfull pirates. If you can't get through "dense" areas, try baiting some of pirates away with one cheap and fast ship (like cargo with 1 small weapon and lots of Ion Engines).

I thought of this, but i remember doing this in a non TA game, and when the trade route is complete it moved at a speed of 1. not sure if this has been changed or not

im not sure myself. whatever way i had it in my head i thought it only applied to races for some reason, and that pirates where immune to it, maybe not though.

I love this idea! i honestly would never had thought of that.

this is all great advise, i will have time to think which one to do since i am not gonna be on the PC the game is saved to until the weekend

You might also consider letting your military production lag for a while and ramping up your influence as well as your research. Build up your infrastructure and use the nonviolent take-overs to expand for a while.

By the time eveyone's tech catches up to the pirates, you can be in a position to break out and overwhealm your enemies. (Think pink blob of doom.)

Influence will hardly make much of a difference in an immense-sized galaxy. I suggest building your worlds and teching up to destroy them, although the best strategy would be to invade using fast ships, I feel like it would be cheating because the AI doesn't understand it. Not enough challenge for me, although it was amusing the first time.
