New Replay Thread

This is a precursor to a new build orders thread to help out the new guys.

My intention is not to keep anything secret. Instead, it's to raise the level of community.

So I will share with everyone my "new" strats and hope everyone can give useful commentary.

Without further ado:

As I've been saying, Advent Illums will be the LRM spam of 1.04.

Also, Leinad shouldn't have gone civics when contesting your military power. I wonder how advent illums would fare against a straight up LRM rusher who's very good at making the crucial strategic decisions (ie. when to attack, when to run, where to attack, etc etc)

I'm interested in watching that, but I'm not sure what to do with the file. Where do I put it to watch?

Updated. Vs Innociv, Advent mirror match.

Users/(your username)/local/roaming/ironclad/etc. should be obvious from there

I don't know why I can't find the right one, but I've pasted that record file into every single possible folder it could be. Can someone give me the direct path they use on XP or Vista so I can find mine?

On XP ... it is within the Local Settings and Application Data hidden folders :

C:\Documents and Settings\[your XP user name]\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\[put file in Record-SinglePlayer sub-folder]
I've got it in C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\Sins of a Solar Empire\Record-SinglePlayer and it's not showing up in the game. I don't get it.

I can't figure it out for Vista either, driving me crazy. Going to email IC for help. I know the location to put it is a little different on Vista, but I don't have the folders it says. :(

Here's the easiest way that you can identify where the file should go

1 - click the link hunting posted. Notice how the file ends with .record
2 - open up windows search. Specify it to search your entire hard drive and all drives if you have multiple
3 - set it to search for *.record

This will give you a good idea of where to stick it. The files should have an ancestor directory called ironclad, but that's not necessarily guaranteed as I don't use Vista (and thus, don't know how it stores files)

This 'technique' works for anything. You can even search within files for text (eg. I use it to search for functions in cpp files all the time when I don't know where they're defined). Search is good =)

Going through Users does not bring me to anything involving Stardock, Ironclad, or SOASE. Doing a search through all contents on C, all I find is the record I've stuck in my SOASE folder. Which is odd, because I have auto-recorded games showing when I check in-game.

Can someone who uses Vista please help out here?

its in the local settings folder, you have to be able to view hidden folders in your folder options.

Again, I have no Local Settings folder anywhere on my C: drive. Search reveals nothing. Will someone please paste their Vista file path so I can create the necessary folders?

did you search all your hard drives and for *.record? BTW, I'm not trying to withhold the answer from you; I just don't have Vista.

Very enjoyable game to watch! I'm just getting my feet wet with Sins and have only played TEC so far, but it's nice to see that although other races have the same ships (mirrored, i.e. each has a Drone cruiser, a long-range frig etc..), the capital ship "special abilities" can tip the game one way or the other.

A Kol's shield ability is useful, but that mothership's Malice...ouch. Just nasty. Would take a lot of brain wracking to figure out how to beat a combination of a hugle fleet of low-tech damage dealers supplemented by an AoE damage augmentation effect.

Still...playing a game where your "big picture" strategic and follow-up tactical decisions matter more than how fast you click the mouse is soooooo refreshing. This game is going to live on my hard disk for a long, long time. :D

Malice is countered by AM burn, ability disables, etc.

It's really good though, yeah.

It's why in that game against him I went Radiance. I guessed he'd go Mothership. If I was wrong, and he went Radiance, well it'd be bad for me to have Mothership. Radiance has a strong AM burning ability.

Just had a friendly (read: unofficial) game with GE and won. The match was

Clan X
Jinx
Cykur
Therlun

Clan GE
Haeso
Cybertx
Maradus

Comments:
We made a mistake chasing down Haeso's cap when we should have had all our caps kill Maradus' planet. Because of that, we weren't able to fully capitalize on our early military superiority when cybertx was going full on economy. Cyker also unfortunately didn't end up killing Haeso's sova but got it to something like 2% health. However, he used his assails very well to raid.

After they built like FIFTY flak, we started teching HC's. Meanwhile, cybertx was feeding haeso a lot of cash so he was able to get more HC's of his own. We also were economically very far behind them as none of us had colonized the ice/volc worlds yet.

At that point, we backed off and colonized the ice/volc worlds but it was a bit too late, as their HC fleet was literally twice as big as ours. Our only recourse was to get the cleansing brilliance/malice combo and have Cykur tech subverters asap. Therlun and I dumped cash onto Cykur to tech up to subverters. Meanwhile, we delayed and harassed them to give us time to build up.

Once I got brilliance, Therlun and I coordinated our malice and brilliance to basically drop all their HC's hull points to 5-10% and cleaned up with our HC's. We then grouped our units near Maradas and then sent them to attack when our antimatter came back up and the subverters arrived. Malice/brilliance + disruption field allowed us to kill their fleet even though they were completely out producing us and had significantly larger numbers.

Hey man, I finally figured it out. Just open your folder options and check 'show hidden folders'...then the path should be...

Users > Usernamer > AppData > Local > Ironclad Games > Sins of a Solar Empire

was a fun game man, hard to fight brill/malice though. Have to do it again some time, think I'll be playing advent more up till they hit the illum with the nerf bat like it needs it. I really think brill/malice is a little broken and shouldn't work together, but the devs seem to like it, it's been there since retail and probably a good portion of beta.

btw, Mediafire.com > rapidshare, by far. Unlimited, no hassle at all. I use it for hosting maps/replays.

Replays of me against Innocivx, good games both of them. If innociv wants to break the games down he can or I'll come back later tonight and do it. I won both games, but he played well and used an interesting tactic in the first, pretty standard in the second. Essentially went radiance to counter sova, but I never built one the second game :p
GG to innociv, were fun games, tonight once I finish making and eating dinner I'll play hunting or another time. Should be some useful replays, short but a couple different build orders. (Note: Not getting your first asteroid is a very big mistake in non 1v1s, don't get the wrong idea here people.)
