Declaring War

This it silly, but is the only way to declare war to actually attack a unit without prior warning?

Have a constructor buid a space station in their territory and build culture additions on it. The opposing race will send you a warning that you are trying to culturally assimilate them and they want your space station. Tell them to piss off and they will eventually declare war on you. Also become evil and your relations with the good guys will go down hill and they will 'out of the blue' declare war on you. Something like 'your race needs to be wiped off the galaxy'...try different things that might piss you off if they did it to you...like surround their home planet with war ships...(havent tried that one yet)...I think you might get better responses if you play at higer levels.

select the attack treaty on your side of the trade screen and trade it to another alien

Thanks for reminding me CariElf that if I am intending to attack someone, I might as well also get someone to pay me for it.

Absolutely :) The minors are particularly generous in this regard, as they often have copious amounts of money, and often end up at war with the more agressive majors.

Ah, so instead of "give me money or we go to war" it's "give me money AND then we go to war". I'm wondering if the AI's get money right before they attack (and I don't mean tribute). That might explain why the Drengin get so freakin' rich in my games. :p

you don't trade the war treaty to the person you want to be at war with. You trade it to someone else who wouldn't mind seeing the victim dead
