I need this to be researched to get higher ship numbers, but I cant seem to find it anywhere. I am playing the advent and cant find it under hostility or harmony.

Higher ship numbers are usually researched in the fleet logistics menu, its one icon below harmony / hostility.

I apparently didnt research the previous friggen skill and that was all that it was telling me. If I just clicked the button directly to the left, I would have had it. I was getting ahead of myself with the chevrons! DOH!

Yeah, each level has a different name for each race, both supply and capital ship crews. If you can't see the grey tab on the lower left of each icon you have purchased, just start clicking up the line.
