Vasari cap ships--Devestator or Desolator

Which Vasari ship do you prefer?  The Devestator or the Desolator?  Is the Devestator necessarily the better fighter while the Desolator is better for planetary bombardment and destroying orbital structures?  It seems like the Desolator has more overall utility while the Devestator is the better fighter.

Devastator hands down. I make Desolators if I start doing well. =)

Some people really like the Whale and the Marauder.

I don't know anyone who likes the carrier capship.

The whale is irreplaceable if you can keep it alive to level 6. "drain planet" is just unfair.

The carrier is the best cap in the game how can anyone not like it. Its a mobile repair station and at level 6 it replicates your forces turning them into factories, it also gives micro phase aura for added survivability. Replicate bombers is the only junk ability on the darn thing, not to mention it brings tons of strikecraft to the fight. Its the best single fleet support cap in the game.
