More Defence

I've been playing SINS a great deal versus the AI and find that at end game, even my own maxed out overlapping defence is barely a speed bump to fleets at that time.   Here are some suggestions:

  1. Increase defence Cap or make it an option at the main option screen
  2. Would be nice to have a buildable flack turret for each race for Anti fighter defence, or perhaps lower strategic slots required for hangers.
  3. One very buildable "super-weapon" comparable to a cap ship could be fun. (Limit one per planet)

The idea is not for an undefeatable defence, but one that is a little more challanging would be great!

Still having a great time playing even after 30 + hours, great work Stardock!

I think defenses are more to give you time to send a fleet somewhere to defend it and less to allow you to win a battle just from your defenses alone, although they certainly help a good bit when your fleet actually gets there combined witht he defenses aiding it.

I think they could add more support defenses like shield regenerators. Maybe some kind of trap devices that slow ships or even stations that can add buffs to some of your current ships. It would encourage the use of ships to defend planets rather than turrets to another level me thinks..

I think what defenses need most is some kind of "taunt" feature when there's no friendly fleet there. While their purpose is to allow time to get a fleet there (a role which I like), the problem is that they're so underpowered as to not really do anything to buy that time. A sizeable fleet can easily ignore all but the most stout of defenses with few losses, and in that time you can wreck someone's infrastructure, bomb their planet, etc. while the gauss turrets just plink away and take out a few frigates.

I'd like to see something like orbital ships that can only fly in the gravity well they were created in (they would take up tactical slots since they are supported by the planet like a hanger bay would) These could be like your own personal little police force for each planet or national guard what have you. It would provide a more mobile system of defence (but still wouldn't stand up to a full fleet. A planet with only defences shouldn't be able to any how)

Or you could just be vasaari and have your fleet at any planet in a very very short amount of time. hehe

don't build turrets, they are very ineffectual, as you have discovered. build ship yards and defend by building frigates in response to enemy attacks. also build repair bays (2 or 3 per system) with overlapping fields of repair so you can fend off an attack with a very small number of your own ships.

A smallish cluster of turrets covered by repair bays can tackle enemy fleets for longer than you think. For the Advent it's usually better to just use Hangar Defenses though, since their strike craft are significantly better.
