a beginners population growth problem

I've been playing GC2 (only DL so far) for several weeks now and made it to challenging AI-level now in my 10th metaverse game. Though getting used to most game features slowly, I still encounter beginners problems from time to time - just like this one:

In my current game I recognized two of my colonies not growing any longer. They halted population growth somewhere at 2.5 billion for no obvious reason. They should be able to grow to their current maximum (6 billion I think) just like my other planets... Approval is no problem, since it's at 100% on both planets.
Am I missing something here? (Hopefully I don't have to fill them up with transports!?)

Thanks so far,
swh.

The Wiki is a great resource for questions like this. Click on the "Databanks" button at the top left of the screen and then click on the link to the Galactic Civilizations Wiki.

Since you mention that approval is no issue on your planets then what you're seeing is the planets maximum population achieveable by growth. This is shown as a table in the Wiki Population article.

Since you say growth stopped at 2.5B then that implies these are PQ4's.

You are correct in assuming that you can bus population to fill them up to the farm limit if you wish but mostly no one ever bothers doing this. I suppose if you're on a very small map and are desperate for population then you could.

to simplify what my loquacious friend Mumble said: lower PQ worlds have a population cap on them that the population will not grow above but, people can be shipped in to increase above that mark.

The flip side of this that there are certain population thresholds hit at the higher levels that greatly reduce your morale, sometimes to dangerous levels. Its learning the correct balance of population and how to get the most economic worth from them that the real challenges of GC come into play.

thank you guys, I think I got it...:

The formula in the wikipedia article seems to explain that my problem doesn't occur on my other (18) planets as well, since they are of higher base quality and therefore that "maximum population achieveable by growth"-barrier was not reached due to planetary improvements!?! (Please correct me if I'm mistaken.)

hmm - but this leads to another question:
For I am pedantic I wish to fill up these worlds, but how may I do this? All what happened to my transports is that they were orbiting these planets, so I had to re-launch them with minimum troops and then sell them to get the rest on the planet.... Is that really the best way?

thanks once more (& sorry for being dumb),
swh.

You just need to take a transport or colony ship and fill them up on one of your higher pop. worlds and send them to the lower pop. one. Once it gets there in orbit the pop. will be added to the planet. Simply relaunch your "pop bus" with 1 on it(It won't let you launch with zero) and go back to fill up again.

O.k. - it works fine.

Thank you all,
