New version 3.20.138 crashes Windows

After some advice here. Updated Icon Packager to latest version and this has caused problems with XP Pro.

Some programs run but cannot be seen like Xilisoft DVD Creator and Adobe Acrobat. Also Windows will not update, it just hangs.

Did a full format and re-install of XP Pro and same happens.

Uninstalled Icon Packager and all works fine. Have dug out a much older version, 3.10 and this works with no problems.

Anybody else having this problem or any suggestions as to how to fix it?

tick the 'show pre-release' button in SDC or install Impulse and download the latest 3.99 version and see if that resolves your issues

Whoops! My bad. Had not realised that before my problem I had the 'Show pre-release' button selected. The problem is with the pre-release version 3.99b[b].047 release that is causing the problem. Looks like there may be a serious bug in the pre-release version that needs ironing out. Have just tried both versions and 3.20.138 runs perfectly. Do I need to report this anywhere?

I seem to have an issue with the favorites icons not switching when I change packages with the newest version. Hence, I have not upgraded versions again yet.

There is another update to that version - available on Impulse 3.99c(b).054 - try that. I'm using that version and I'm not seeing any probs. You mention a clash with Adobe Acrobat is that with the reader 8 version as mine is firing up OK. No probs with Microsoft Update either. If you are still having issues it may be worth starting a ticket with Stardock Support

In fact, Stardock have put an additional beta update on Impulse. .058 beta version is now available

Have just downloaded Impulse and will try installing tomorrow. My Adobe Acrobat is Professional 7. With Xilisoft DVD Creator I even tried the latest version with no success. I did find though, with that program, if I opened Process Explorer I had an open cmd.exe running under it. If I terminated that then Xilisoft showed. This, of course, is even on a fresh install of Windows.

I wish the "View History" option worked for it on Impulse..

This has come up in 2 other threads. There is a bug in the new beta that causes msconfig not to show, defrag, and the odd program you may have running. I would uninstall it and go back to the previous version and wait til they work the bug out. I went through the same problem as did a dozen other folks. Yrag has been working on it and support is aware of it as well.

In the few years I have used SD products, this is the first and only problem of it's kind that I have ever personally run across. I'm sure it will be addressed soon.

Po' the msconfig and paint issues have been resolved in the last week and the latest version on Impulse fixes it. There were some Vista users who were waiting for some fixes too and I'm not sure whether those have been fixed yet or not. The issues that suki is having are similar to the paint and msconfig problem but I don't use his version of Acrobat or DVD software to test the problem

I just tried it again yesterday with Impulse and it still knocked my msconfig out. When did they fix it? (I have XPHome)

Po' I've got XP SP2 too and running Iconpackager 3.99c(b).058 (x86) and I've just tried msconfig and it comes up fine

Have installed Impulse and have a question before I set it for beta versions.
Do I uninstall Stardock Central or leave both on my computer?
you can leave both

just look carefully - they may show different versions available

Well Im not sure if this is where I should post to let people know, but I use perfect disk 2008 and it took an age, well 2 or 3 minutes to start, I have even reinstalled windows, but it seems it was the latest Icon Packager as removing it has solved the issue.

grogy, I have PerfectDisk 2008 too. Version - latest build 44. I just fired it up and it took eight seconds from the moment I clicked the icon to analyze/start of defragmentation. So no problems for me.

Got me beat Leo, I notice its not giving you any problems anywhere, shame these computer thingys wont behave consistently lol. I had just done a reinstall of windows XP home SP2 and installed all the patches so I hadn't really had time to mess too much up yet. And it occurred on both my laptop and desktop. Anyway the previous version of icon packager works well, so I am using it for now, will try the next beta. Maybe its working in conjunction with something else I use to beat up on perfect disk, not sure what it could be, and I don't have the time to start uninstalling things 1 by 1 till i find it (or not)right now.
