Screen resolution

Hi everyone,

I am playing Sins on a 720p (=1280x720) projector, which projects onto a 123" screen.  It looks like Sins will only run on my setup at 1024x768 or 1920x1080.  The odd thing is that, of course, 1920x1080 is 1080p, a similar widescreen HD format to 720p, yet I can't seem to find a way to run it at 720p.  Unfortunately the game looks pretty bad at 1024x768 due to scaling issues and the same is true of running it at 1920x1080.  So it either ends up looking blurry or pixelated.

Is there anything I can do to force 1280x720 inside the game?

TIA

You can hack the user.setting file and set it to your custom screen resolution and refresh rate. It's located in folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting

And the entries are:

VideoRefreshRate
VideoFullScreenWidth
VideoFullScreenHeight

Manually setting the resolution as above should get it to run at that res, just bear in mind that you may have some UI issues (things might overlap a bit) as the game was designed with a minimum height of 768px in mind.

Ah right, I forgot that Sins likes a resolution no worse than 1024x768. Maybe that explains why the 720p resolution isn't showing up via the Sins menus.

Yep.

Thanks for the responses guys. Interesting point about expecting no less than 768 vertical res. I'll check it out and see if the overall experience is better than playing at 1080p.

I'm trying this hack right now, but I have another problem. I go to C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\ ... but then I don't get any "settings" archive.

What am I doing wrong?
