1) Blair Fraser of Ironclad (on 27 March) :

I don't think everyone understands what minidumps are. It is not a specific problem, but rather a minidump is really a capture of the state of the game when the crash occured. It could be caused any number of different crashes. [...]

At this time there are only 2 known crashes caused by Sins (hopefully fixed for 1.1) [besides crashes which come from causes external to the Sins program itself.]

2) Blair Fraser of Ironclad (on 29 March) :

It is impossible to solve the minidump problem altoghether because a minidump is just the generic representation of any number of different bugs and there will always be bugs in software.

Please read reply #19 for a more detailed explanation.

The multiplayer crashes are caused by either modded data or the 1 of the 2 crashes I mentionned in reply #19. There isn't much more to say on the issue than I already said in reply 19.

We are aware of the problem and working hard to solve the it and hope to have it fixed for v1.1.

Awesome to hear. I do wish the minidump error would contain a bit more info on what may have caused the problem, but as long as ironclad has some idea of whats causing them in the majority of users, thats good enough for me.

Now had the same thing happened in a game developed by, say EA, I would end up having to solve the problem myself or give up trying.

If you read the complete reply #19, written by Blair Fraser of Ironclad and referenced in my previous post, you get the idea that minidumps are caused by the following :

1. either modded data that one of the players has (not Ironclad's fault)
2. either a faulty or buggy piece of hardware or software (such as a driver) that the gamer has on his machine (not Ironclad's fault)
3. either the interference of running, background programs on the gamer's machine (not Ironclad's fault)
4. either one of the players's network connection (not Ironclad's fault)
5. either the 2 problems directly linked to the Sins program
(Ironclad is working to fix them for « 1.1 »).

People should check for causes 1 to 4 before complaining that it's Ironclad's responsibility.

If you are having lots of mini dumps here are some tips to reduce them. Turn down the gfx settings from very high to high or lower. Play on smaller maps.
