SDC Forums and AVG

runaway cpu use

I have been using SDC since 1/15/08 but only for downloads and updates. However, today I thought I'd check out the forums there. BAD idea! It seems I can use anything on the site but the forums. As soon as I go to "Discussions" my cpu instantly hammers to 100% (from 2-7%)              I checked the task manager and found the process  avgrssvc.exe running at 91-93% Does my anti-virus think there is an infection? It drops to normal as soon as I exit SDC, but not if I leave the forums and stay on the site. I've tried deleting cookies and cache on both IE7 and Firefox, nothing helps. Stardock Central up-dated itself on launch , so I should be current. With Impulse on it's way,I hope this doesn't carry over.  (:( Meanwhile I'll stick with the WC site, never a problem or any advertising there. :CONGRAT:

Wizard1956 I'm on an XP Home 32bit computer and use AVG anti-virus free version. No such problems at all. On another post you said you were seeing ads in SDC. Can you post a screenshot?

Just went and checked. Now Wizard1956 is appearing as signed in and no ads. I only saw them in the forums anyway and I can't go there. Still 100% CPU as soon as I access the forums. Vista Home Basic w/SP1, been using AVG free w/no problems. This HP was new 11/21/07. Also my first pc,about to say the hell with it and unpack my x-box and ps2. ;p I'll contact Stardock support Monday, so they are aware of it.Thanks so much for your reply, I'll keep checking back to see if those of you with far more experience than I can help. Have a good one.

If you have not done so already try clearing the cookies from your internet browser. Whomever gets the ticket in support will likely tell you the same on the first suggestion.

That should clear the issue but let us know if it does not.

Sorry I couldn't reply sooner but someone unplugged the forums soon after I saw your post. Murphy's law will prevail.Ive cleared cookies with IE7 tools,SuperAnti-spy and ccleaner as well, deleted IE temp files, deep scanned for spyware and viruses, nothing helped. Odd thing is I can go to the forums at WC or Impulse and everything is normal. This is WAY over my head  ;p .As I told support,my main concern is for others who may not notice it happening,if indeed it does ,and damage something. As for me ..I never worry until the smoke turns to flame! With Impulse working(well, mostly) it's almost a non-issue for me, but if you want me to try a fresh install of SDC ,I'm o-k with that.I am just happy that most of my stuff works most of the time. :p  X-(  Thank You for your response.
