Anyone played a single sector challenge yet?

I am sort of cheating - in that I am set to occasional/tight/medium/bright - so I am not outnumbered in planets too greatly.
Played a couple of games so far. Got severely beaten on one and am winning the second through lots of trade and diplomacy.
My self-imposed rules are: no starbases outside my home sector and no searching for anomalies and if any planet defects to me I have to give it away to the weakest Civ.
It's good fun so far and "feels" completely different to the usual game. No colony rush, range/speed is irrelevant and trade, diplomacy and morale/tax balance is everything. And no starbase micromanagement!
I don't think I would stand a chance on higher AI levels - but am going to try my next game with planets set to abundant (or whatever the next setting up is). Will probably lose - but will have a ball doing so.
