Mass attack units with selection box?

Is this possible? How is it done?

In homeworld and homeworld 2, you could tell your ships to attack a certain groups of ships by first clicking your ships and then hitting ctrl+ selecting the enemy. Is this possible in sins?

What do you mean by "groups"? Not everyone is going to have their ships in groups or fleets.

He means multiple units. Like if you want your fleet to engage a specific cluster or "group" of enemy units before the rest... or focus fire on the enemy fleet as opposed to the gauss platforms. In Homeworld one would CTRL and click drag select the targets and the command would be given to attack those targets first before just engaging targets at will.

I'm not sure it can be explained any more plainly.

I'd actually prefer to attack this way since sometimes when attacking ships, I'll misclick and tell my fleet to move to the position rather than attack the ship.

Don't think you can do that, but you can shift-click to queue up attacks.

If you're looking to attack a group of the same ship type, you can simply turn on icon stacking and target the stacks via the empire tree.

Actually kryo, I pointed out a long long time ago that doesn't work :P Unless it was stealthily changed, clicking a stack just picks one unit from that stack, and then the default AI takes over :P

It used to work that way back in Beta 4 and prior days, but somewhere between that and release it seems to have gotten lost :(

I'd like to second this idea. This capability would really reduce the amount of micromanaging needed to fight a battle, IMO. This is especially true when using interceptors to strafe LRMs. It's wasteful in the late game to target all my fighters on a single LRM and takes too much micro to target certain squadrons on certain LRMs. FF with ships against another ship works well because all a ship has to do is re target once it's FF target is destroyed. However, fighters have to make a run and if they abort their run, you lose a lot of firepower right there due to targeting limitations.

Group attacking is probably something that should be added. Its been a standard RTS command for ages. I remember using it a lot in Starcraft.

Something simple such as pressing "A" and then dragging a box around the targets.

Eek, the attacking the stack method should work. I'll add that to the list to be fixed. As Annatar points out, that IS how it used to be.

And there was much rejoicing :) Thanks, Blair!

I tried the attacking stacks method and it seems to work. I'd still like to see group attacking added though.

Now I'm confused. I'll specifically try it once I get home to make sure whether it's working or not :P

It is not working, I just tried it out, when you stack the units it will only select one unit per stack clicked.

Thanks Blair. Don't take my comments to be complaining either. It's not often that a game this ridiculously awesome comes along. You guys at IC and SD are doing great things, and I'm looking forward to playing this game for years to come.

I feel less paranoid delusional now, thanks Dizzy :P

You could do that in Starcraft? Did they add that in a late patch or did I somehow just miss that? Actually, I assume you can do it in WC3 then, and I didn't know you could do it there either.

You can't do that in starcraft. Closest you get is to attack move behind the enemy: hit 'A', and left click on the other side of the enemy units. Your units will attempt to move toward where you clicked, but will attack every enemy unit they encounter along the way.

I second that. The only other games I can think of with the feature we want is the homeworld games.

"attacking the stack method should work"

Has the stack method of attacking been fixed yet? It's an important approach to manageing ones battles. If not, what update should we expect it in?
