Seemingly Random Crashes

... even after the 1.03 patch!

I was looking forward to the 1.03 patch because I thought that this issue, which many players appear to be experiencing, would have been addressed by Stardock in some way. The FAQ is still blank on this particular issue, as well. My game continues to freeze sporadically, sometimes allowing me to play for hours on end, and other times freezing on the menu within the first five or so minutes. There is no one thing that appears to trigger the freezes, which are so terrible that I am forced to reboot my machine each and every time they occurr.

Is anyone working on fixing this game-crippling bug?

System specs? The most common issue of that sort is generally caused by buggy nVidia drivers under Vista (which nVidia tells us they think they've fixed for their next release).

Alienware Aurora m9700 Laptop
Windows XP Professional
AMD Turion x64 2.4 GHZ Processor
2 x nVidia GeForce Go 7900 GS (512mb)in SLi
2 GB RAM

So it is definitely not a Vista problem, in my case. I still experience the random freezes that other people complain about, though. Any further wisdom on this would be appreciated.

Have you tried turning down the effects settings from highest to say high or medium to see what affect that has?

I've tried turning everything down to the bare minimum and the problem persists. It has been exceptionally bad today. The only time the game has not frozen in mid-play is during the very first match that I ever played, which lasted several hours without a single hiccup. Ever since then it has randomly frozen at some point.

This is game would be so great were it not for this issue.

I'm having the same problem in single player. I never had a crash prior to 1.04. Usually on large maps with 4+ AIs, I'll get a mini-dump about an hour into the game.

Nvidia 6800GS

You guys do know that save games from previous version are incompatible and will therefore crash your games?

Was just covering all bases. There have been numerous such threads where in the end it has turned out that people wanted to play from an old save-game...

but with a mod from 1.03 on.
End of quote

So does it crash without the mod? If not, then it's a safe bet it's the mod's fault.

I have the same problem. I don't use mods and I am on Windows XP. I can play Crysis so I don't think graphics are the problem. Just to be safe, I turned them down anyway. If it happens, it happens within the first five minutes of loading the game. After that things are fine. It only happens on this game. Same thing happens to my friend who also plays this game. I have the 1.04 patch installed. It happens at the menu or during actual gameplay. The problem is not older game saves either.
