Latest Deskscape does NOT work

Previous version of the descscape worked great. However, I installed the latest version (including dreams) and now all deskscapes refuse to work. I don't get an error, it just does nothing when selecting except for a split second showing the Descscape settings... at the bottom of the selection screen. So, reverting back to previous deskscape or wait for a working version? I have Deskscape version 1.95(b).028 and Dreams version 1.90(b).015

I have the exact same problem.

I've been running with the Deskscapes 2.0 pre-release versions for a while now and today Stardock Central reported there was a new version, so I allowed it to update my Deskscapes install and it asked for a reboot. After rebooting I just got a black desktop. I went back in to customise my desktop background, but whenever I highlight a Deskscape Dream nothing happens. The display underneath the main file browser panel briefly shows the Dynamic Wallpaper and Performance Settings options, but after a few moments returns to the more normal 'How should the picture be positioned?' icons and the Dream is never displayed.

So far I have tried uninstalling Deskscapes completely and then re-installing the old version 1.02 Deskscapes, but it now exhibits the same symptoms.

OK, well I'm still glad I posted as there definitely seems to be a problem here, but my Deskscapes is working again now.

After updating from the previous beta version to 1.95(b).028 my Deskscapes failed to work, as described previously. The actions I then took were:

I uninstalled Deskscapes and rebooted.
I installed Desckscapes 1.02 and rebooted.
Deskscapes still failed to work - no error messages, but no Dreams would display.
I ran Stardock Central and allowed it to update Deskscapes to 1.95(b).028 again and rebooted.
Deskcape Dreams is now working perfectly again.

I'm obviously not entirely confident it'll continue to work, but so far this has done it for me.

I had the same problem. I tried many ways to fix it, but to no avail.

I even tried to reinstall the older version that worked, but that did not even solve the problem.

I ended up using the system restore feature in windows vista.

Everything has been fine since. I will be sure to wait for more guinea pigs next time a new version comes along.

And people wondered why it wasn't released earlier.  :)
There are so many variables on a PC that issues are bound to crop up.

Having said that . . it is working for most people.  Thanks for posting feedback so DS can be improved.

I have tested this on two nvidia cards and one ati (in a macbook pro running vista ultimate). The ati one exhibits the same problem listed above...just doesn't work with the non video dreams. The nvidia ones worked fine.

For thoes that have total failures please post your system specs and what video drivers you have. If you are so inclined please start a ticket with us at support@stardock.com as well. We would like to get to the bottom of this as quickly as possible.

If you encouter this on one dream or another (or dynamic over movie) please also let us know.

I started a ticket for this problem, since I see this on both my 2 PCs. (Both AMD X2 2800+, but completely different graphics cards)
Hope this will be solved soon.

I was able to revert back to the archived version on the Macbook Pro and it works fine now. The weird thing is I used restore archive to go back to what I thought was a version from 2/16 or something, but now that I check the SDC, it shows 1.95.[b].028 from 3/12/2008 is running...and it's working now.

So, perhaps this is some odd installer issue? I've rebooted multiple times, so that can't be it.

I hope this helps.

ATI driver for the MacBook Pro Radeon X1600 is the 6/14/2007, v8.390.0.0 that comes from Apple with bootcamp I believe.

my deskscapes failed to work and got a black screen, but wb6 and icon packager failed to work as well, have uninstalled deskscapes, and now wb6 is working, sluggish at moment, am trying out icon packager to see if this works fine, looks to be at the moment, have put a ticket in to support, but they are slow at responding, is anyone else having trouble with their deskscapes, and does it effect other programmes as well. am on 64 bit system builder vista home premium.

wb6 is fine but icon packager is alright however it is unstable ie applies some packages but not all, and also the title is displayed but the rest is a grey spot where the package should be.

I think we've managed to narrow down what is going wrong, though we're still working out the details of the why. At least for most of the reports in this thread.

Email kwilas@stardock.com over the weekend and I'll hook you up with a file to replace that should sort this, provided you have an OD subscription.

Did that in the support request. (Two different video cards; one is Ati, one is NVidia (don't know the exact types at the moment))

The machine I had this problem with is the following:

Windows Vista Ultimate with Service Pack 1
Intel Core Duo 6700 CPU
256Mb ATI Radeon 3850 running Catalyst 8.3 drivers and dual DVI monitors
4GB System RAM

After upgrading from the previous pre-release version of Deskscapes 2 to version 1.95(b).028 I had the same issue as describe above - notably no Dreams would display and when selected, the normal Deskscapes options menus would appear only momentarily before going back to the usual Wallpaper size/postion options.

I uninstalled Deskscapes, rebooted and re-installed version 1.02, but that then had exactly the same problems.
From there I upgraded directly to version 1.95(b).028 again, rebooted and Deskscapes started working perfectly again.

Still all working so far....

Vista Ultimate w/ SP1
Q6600
4GB RAM
8800GTX with 169.25 drivers

I tried the 2.0 beta and didn't like it so I went back to the free version. After uninstalling and reinstalling, my screen goes black. So I tried updating to 1.95 and it keeps giving me a message to either "Buy Now" or "Close" Have tried all the people's suggestions above but nothing is working. I purchased Objeck Desktop 2007 about 2 months ago.

As with games, DeskScapes likes to have the latest video drivers.  Can you please upgrade to the latest video driver if you have not already and if it still does not work please post back here?  Thanks.

Dell Latitude D820 Notebook
Vista Business SP1
Intel Core Duo T7200
RAM 2Gb
Nvidia Quadro NVS 120M was v7.14.10.9686

I upgraded the video driver to v7.15.11.5683, which is the latest available from Dell's web site. This driver is dated 16/11/07. There are no later drivers at nVidia's web site.

Updating the driver has made no difference.

I am experiencing the same problem. I updated DeskScapes to the latest using Stardock Central. It no longer works. However, the Windows version works.
