Any ideas why Frames are so slow.

Hey there just a quick question. My system is

Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.4GHz

2 Gigs DD2 Ram

8800 GTS Nvidia Graphics Card.

Windows XP professional service pack 2.

I was told that this computer should easily run the game on any settings. But even when its just me versus one hard AI the game gets very jumpy when i get a medium sized fleet. Its on a huge random map. Is there any reason for this or is it just the computer is not good enough? Cheers for any help.

My system basically matches yours overall. Its more "mid game" and on problem than the system. One thing I did to help "a little bit" was turn off "show cargo ship icons" in options. I think there is a problem with freshing data in the game with clearing out the old data so the file builds bigger and bigger and bogs the game down. There is no reason the game should lag at full view away from the fleet battles. Just hope the 1.03 patch thats due out anytime will fix alot of the mid to end game lag problems. I think I have finished 20% of my games cause of it vs the comp. Huge random maps though aren't nice for any computer. Try creating a smaller map with planets closer =)

If you've got everything on Highest, try turning bumpmaps down to just High.

I have about same specs and i have no problems whatsoever, all settings highest.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.40GHz,1066MHz
Asus P5K
Asus EN8800 GTS 512MB
Kingston DChannel 2GB Kit

And i am playing all kind of maps, i played a 3 star system with about 50-60 planets and had zero problems last weekend against 7 normal AI. I will check the biggest maps soon.

Are you sure you installed your motherboard drivers? thats all i can think about now, maybe some anti virus.... Could be all kind of things. A nice measure is also checking how many processes you got running on your pc when you just start your pc, i love it when someone asks why his pc is damn slow when i see two pages of installed applications when i press Start, Programs :P

I have a very similar system, but I run Vista, which techincally should be slower due to the higher RAM usage on that OS, but I run with all settings on Highest without a glitch, even on star systems like what you mentioned with 10 players (I'm 5 hours into the game as well).

I'd start looking at processes running in the background, especially anti-virus, making sure your drivers are up to date, etc.

Good luck, hope you get it figured out!

don't forget to check whether you have your cpu running at full steam or not (balanced or high performance energy scheme)

Turning the bumpmaps down to High helped with all my lag issues, and I've got a slightly lower spec machine than yours.

Also, the differences were very, very slight between the bumpmap levels.

One thing I've noticed in other games is that on-board sound devices can also cause problems.

Yeah i have tried turning all effects down low. Have turned everything to the lowest but even zoomed fully out it still jumps. How do you turn your cpu on full steam? And yeah all drivers and everytinh installed.

And i dont have too much running in background as formatted computer just 2 weeks ago. Cheers for all the help guys.
